Overclocked CPU's, estimated life??? say E6400 at 3ghz?

Thread Starter
ok so wats a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life??? say E6400 at 3ghz?

or if u want to take extream overclocking a E6400 at 3.8ghz (this is for

example)so pretty much overclocked to the max while still stable how long do u

think they'll last before they jst die(years, months, days?)?

so jst generally 2 questions kinda

1. ok so wats a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life for a modirate overclock say a

E6400 at 3ghz

2. and second a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life for a extreame overclock max

until unstable say somewhere between 3.4ghz-3.8ghz(depending on ur cpu)

i would think, alittle less then stock freq.

has long has its properly cooled, just last quite awhile

i don't know about anyone else here, but at stock speeds, i've never had a processor fail (5 systems over 15 years of desktop using, with the switch to laptops 2 years ago). what is the average life of a stock processor anyway?
Most are supposed to have a stock life of about 10 years, so even overclocking if done right, will only take maybe 3 or so years off. I doubt you'll even want the computer by the time the CPU fails.

On my side of the fence I have never had a Intel CPU fail except one time and that was with my abit mobo that had the capacitor problems. It seems to have damaged the cpu when it happened. Other then that not one Intel failure. BUT AMD on the other hand 2 out of 3 I bought failed within one year. Why the differnce I don't know just my luck I guess.

well, I've had my P4 for over 2yrs, running at 58C idling and 65ish medium applications, then 71 once and a while, its going strong

I've been to VW car shows and my favorite thing was when they'd take a stock VW Beetle engine and run it without oil. Everybody would bet on how long it would last....To me overclocking seems like the same kind of thing. Anyone want to get a pool going???

^ A more interesting type of contest might be:
People try to set up a high-stress OC setup such that their CPU fails in 1 year. Whoever comes closest to the 1 year mark wins the pool. Above or below doesn't matter, just how close.

?

i am still using my old athlon xp 2000+ overclocked to 2.2Ghz (over 3 years)

i don't think it will have an impact on the processor life time as long as you provide proper cooling

Hardware won't start loosing massive times off their life untill you start uping the voltage. The cpu will last you untill you need to upgrade trust me.

I have to agree: most chips are overengineered. My only concern is with stability, thus I don't OC too far past stock, ever.

Once I ran a P4 1.7GHz without the fan (just the heatsink). I ran it for several minutes, it went up to 100C, then I turned it off and put the fan back. Several months later I sold that computer, it's been more than a year and it is still running. Great, isn't it?

Got a friend runninga E6400 at 3.2ghz, and it tops at 42C (think he has a Tuniq 120)

It'll last long enough til your next upgrade.

I have a pentium II-400 running at 473mhz still to this day (7 years) and it runs 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is my FreeBSD box. As long as your system stays cool they will last longer then you will keep it I am sure.
