I believe Windows Vista has a halfway working native driver for the Dell Wireless 1500 card. Last I heard there was an official Dell update in the works, but I don't know when it will be released (soon, hopefully).

The link Dell-Machina posted above is the correct one for any of the Broadcom based Dell wireless cards for XP or 2K (13xx/14xx/1500).

If you had any other qeustions on this feel free to let me know.

Just so you guys know, a new Broadcom driver was released in the last couple of days for wireless cards in Vista. I hope this helps. It is available on the Dell support website (http://support.dell.com).

Do you mean the ones that show 3/15/2007 as the last update?

To be honest, I haven't had a chance to check the support site to see what the date on it is. Certain members of my department have a weekly meeting to share info on wireless problems and developements (in and out of Dell) and the update was one of the things we discussed this week. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the meeting this time so the only info I have at this point is that an update was "just released". If it is not the 3/15 driver then it should be posted on the site in the next few business days (at week at most). Larry Dell Customer Advocate

Anyone get the one listed as 3/15/07 working? I have a I9400 and cannot get the dell 1500 wlan card to work. Hopefully they get out some new drivers soon.

OK, to make sure I knew what I was talking about, I went and checked with a coworker and took a look at a system running Vista with a Dell Wireless 1500 (Broadcom Draft N) card installed.

It seems I didn't have the full story on the 'driver' update. Apparently, the 3/15/2007 update is for the Dell Wireless Card Utility only, and does not include an update driver. I would like to apologize for any confusion I may have caused by stating otherwise above. While it does not include the driver, the utility does have diagnostics and some other useful features for troubleshooting the wireless card (such as the site monitor to show what wireless networks it can currently see).

The driver is still the native Vista driver, and should be automatically installed by Windows when the card is detected. If you go to Device Manager and expand the Network Adapters section, you should see 'Dell Wireless 1500' listed. If it lists it has a driver problem, go to the drivers tab of the properties window for the card and tell it to update the driver.

To configure the card you will need to use the Vista wireless configuration. If anyone has questions on that let me know and I'll post specifics.

Id like to comment that the native vista drivers for the broadcom cards are horrible. Im about 30 feet from my router and with the native vista drivers I get 80ish % signal strength. with the Dell Utility and driver package I get a full 100% signal flow so hopefully updated 1500 drivers will be along the way.

Yeah, those of us providing tech support for the Dell cards are also hoping to see an updating driver soon (the sooner the better, in my personal opinion). Unfortunately, I have not heard any information about when that will happen as the driver comes from Broadcom, and those in my department usually find out about them shortly before they are released.

I just found out there is a new Vista driver release (http://ftp.dell.com/network/R151522.EXE) for the Dell wireless 13xx/14xx/15xx cards. The release date is 3/22/2007, and at least one other person has had success with it.

I haven't used ubuntu (I use Gentoo at home) but I know the Broadcom wireless adapters have linux support. At the worst, you should be able to get the B/G functionality using linux drivers for the 14xx card. I don't have a wireless card of my own, so I don't know which specific driver you will need, unfortunately. Doing a quick Google search pulled up that the 1500 is a Broadcom 4328 card, so that should help you find the driver you need. Larry Dell Customer Advocate

The Dell Wireless 1500 is the Broadcom 802.11B/G/N card, so the Broadcom driver is what you will have to use to get it to work under linux (Dell does not have a linux driver for the card). I have not used the card under linux so I do not know where to get the driver, however, I am sure a Google search should quickly give you the answer. Larry Dell Customer Advocate
