I say we let FT test it for heat issues. He's become the recent expert.

Not to mention the sheer number of fans on this model.
Until I see some temperature readings, as prior PCT employees did once before (palmrests, WASD Keys, etc.), I'm scared to consider this thing. The processor staying cool is good and all, but the selling point on this will be the 7950GTX and possibly an 8 series nVIDIA card.

Yeah PCTorque is sorely missed.
i'm going to cross my fingers and dive in when the 8x card is available.
unless Hp's new 20" has a 3Ghz, then i may go that way.

Hey I'm planing on getting one of theese babies!

But I have some questions:
Does Windows XP support the 4GB Ram configuration in this computer (I heard this needs Vista 64Bits)? Or can it only go up to 2GB?

Is the screen better, more contrasty and more responsive that the ones that equiped the 5720s? Or is it the same LCD?

I would also like to know if it supports a QX6700/QX6800 and most important: Q6600, and if there are any plans of a 8 series NVIDIA VGA SLI.

Thanks a lot for helping me!

sk.

XP 64-bit will recognize more than 2GB of memory. I'm not sure if it will always recognize all 4 GB though...I've heard many cases of 4 GB only showing up as around 3 in XP and Vista, both 64-bit. It also depends on the BIOS as well.

As for the RAM, it's a hardware issue. Even 64bit on these laptops will only about 3.2-3.4GB usable. I still have not seen any laptop that supports the full 4GB even if the Laptop says it can. Because of the confusion, I noticed some laptop makers make a notation saying they will not support the full 4GB. Hopefully laptop makers will make the Mother Boards fully 64bit along with a BIOS to match.

Oh, so there's no chance in hell this laptop is ever going to fully support the 4GB right? Or would a BIOS update solve that?

And what about the LCD? And the Quad-Core compatibility? Thanks.

It's my understanding that this is only a limitation of Intel 945-based chipsets (which most laptops are based on). The Sager NP9260 uses the desktop P965 motherboard chipset, which does support full use of 4GB of RAM. See here: "For Windows Vista to use all 4 GB of memory on a computer that has 4 GB of memory installed, the computer must meet the following requirements: The chipset must support at least 8GB of address space. Chipsets that have this capability include the following: -Intel 975X -Intel P965 -Intel 955X on Socket 775" Unless there's something else I'm missing, the 9260 should have no problem using all 4GB of RAM (assuming a 64-bit OS is used).

The quad cores wont be supported because the power supply doesnt support the extra wattage the processors take. Also, it might cause overheating issues. If they make quad cores will lower wattage (65-80) that arent xeons then the 9260 should be able to handle it.

Im not sure about SLI through VGA. You'll prob have to ask Charles or contact Sager/Clevo directly.

The Quad-Core QX6700 consumes and produces the exactly same heat as the X6800. So I don't see any problem on running one of these systems with a Quad.

Has anyone purchased and received a 9260 yet? I would like to get feedback from a retail customer regarding build quality and performance before making a purchase.

Look over at notebookreview forums. You will find a couple of people with one.
