So the short story is I've been having problems with my m1210 and today a tech came over and replaced the motherboard and ram. All is well. They fixed the original problem. Then later today the m1210 starts making a high pitched hissing sound that gives me a headache in about 5 minutes. I tried to explain to dell that they offer 3 kinds of warranties, mail in, at home, and complete care. I have at home and dell wants me to send it into the depot. They are sending me another tech to replace my system fan which i'm 99.9% sure won't fix the problem. I asked about a replacement and he said standard procedure is for the laptop to go to the depot. The tech that was at my house today told me horror stories of how they don't really do anything at the depot. The rep i talked to said dell doesn't give out replacements, I told him I had read 100's of accounts online of them doing so. They seemed immune to the fact that i need the laptop for school. If i had mail in service i would have no problem sending it to the depot but I feel at home should not bring the laptop out of your house unless they send a replacement. I can understand the dell "might" be able to better diagnose the problem at the depot but i can't help feel like they are pulling a fast on on me. What do you guys think?
