Another mobile 8800 claim - Page 2

So far, it seems the consumer version of the desktop 8000 series cards are, at their slowest, significantly faster than the speediest, overclocked 7xxx series. They are already on a smaller process and don't suck much more power.

I think whatever 8xxx card gets to laptops, it will be faster than what's out there now.

A 4.3 graphics score in Vista is nothing to write home about. It needs to be above 5 to even be considered. BTW - there is nothing in the MXM spec about a type IV; perhaps NVIDIA will post an update.

In the meantime check this out:

Actually, just about nobody who knows anything about what's going on in the scene expects a mobile 8800 to appear, ever. You will probably see some mid-range DX10 G80 cards soon (together with Santa Rosa), and high end mobile 8900, or even 9800 cards this fall.

Exactly, and now that AMD/ATI has reportedly made that move, they need to go there more, and faster than ever...

Apparently Clevo expects it to appear:

, still being close-minded?

If by being "close[d]-minded" you mean understanding the laws of physics and of the market, then, yes, sure. You know, I really wonder why you guys are hopping up and down, peeing your pants about whether or not there will be a mobile 8800 in May or not. As far as I know, there are no games out, even by May, that would require such a card, and the 7950 seems to be just fine for what is out now. If you feel the need for that, you can even get dual-7950s in a laptop. So why is it so important to have your newest toy in May? Plus, as I said before, I would have to be royally stupid to buy a go8800-based toaster oven now, when I can expect something like an 8900 or 9800, with better performance, fewer bugs, and much, much lower power and cooling requirements, to be out by the end of the year.

Will we be able to put an 8800 card in a current 17" Dell laptop, or will the case need to be reworked (if the card ends up being too big post die shrink)???

Looking at an upgrade in a year or two. Never pays to buy it right away, unless you want to play a few of the DX10 features.

Well the 8800GTX desktop card is a hell lot of faster than current cards out there. This in XP and it can be evern faster for sure, Vista seems like there's still problems with drivers.

My 8800GTX smokes everything DX9 currently has to offer and I can overclock it too easily if I want to but no need since it's one hell of a killer card. Unified Shaders does a lot to performance, constant smooth FPS.

There, that's what I wanted to here. That's exactly a good point, and I wasn't planning on buying a DX10 laptop until DX10 games showed up. But the fact that you and others denied 100% the very possiblity of the mobile 8800 or of its release before Q3 and bashed on people who even gave it a thought like you guys were the very engineers working on these cards ticked me off.

I understand from a physics point of view it's unreasonable to get that power-hungry card into a laptop at a 90nm or maybe even a 80nm process, but apparently the market has significant say on that. And that was the point I was trying to get across.

http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/17/s...ming-notebook/. Here is another company boasting DirectX 10-compatible NVIDIA cards with 512MB of video RAM, does not say what kind a card though so who knows.
