you can go into the control panel and open the mouse properties and disable it there.

On the more recent models you just install the Synaptic drivers for the touchpad and there is a built in option to disable the touchpad if a USB mouse is present.

That's the control panel from my D820. All latitudes are like that. However, Inspirons use a different driver set than Latitudes so they will be different.

The Control Panel on my D820 doesn't look like that. I have no enable/disable options. Any ideas? I also have a fingerprint sensor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. The touch pad is driving me crazy!!!

If your control panel doesn't look even similar to that picture I posted then you don't have the proper touchpad driver package installed. Go reinstall it from the Dell website.

Most laptops have certain keys you can hit to disable the touchpad and usually its on of the F keys so if you hit the function button and and f key it should work. some people use f4 and some use f5 mine is Fn and F7 but i have an acer. so i hope this helps you out. goodluck
