Hi all, i am from Singapore.

Is T7200 2.0ghz with 4mb cache VS T5600 1.86ghz 2mb cache gonna affect my gaming?

Or is 2gb 677mhz ram gonna affect my gaming more? compared to the normal 1gb 533mhz...

Need help asap!

I would rather go with 1.86 ghz + 2GB of ram then 2.0 ghz + 1 gB of ram.

Get the RAM. It'll make much more of a difference than a fraction of a Ghz.

really? how about a 1.8ghz + 2gb ram VS 2.0ghz 4mb l2 cache + 2gb ram.... are they much of a difference?

The cache makes a 5% difference, there is an Anandtech.com article on this. The increased clockspeed is about 166/1830 = 9% difference, in real world probably only about 5%.

So the T7200 should be about 10% faster for doing CPU intensive things. If your playing *games*, almost none of them will be faster since they will be severely limited by the GPU.

i just dun want my game to lag.....so its not a wise choice to make that upgrade?

If you are gaming go with more ram...the 1.8 cpu is plenty fast for gaming.

what game is it u want to be able to play with no lag?

hi i would like to play fps games...like GRAW 2 and rainbow 6: Vegas....all have a 3.0ghz minimum requirement...for p4

Well your biggest concern should be the graphics card which will likely be an issue with a weak midrange GPU like the 7400. I dont even expect to enjoy the game with my 7900GS.

i dont mind playing the game at low detailed settings...just as long as it is playable...isit?
I play Need for Speed Carbon, Company of Heroes, and Battlefield 2142, all of which are very playable at the low detail settings. I can go medium on NFS and BF but not COH.

yeah i was able to play splinter cell 4 and 3 on about medium settings with no lag... i play madden 2007 on full everything with no lag... the card does pretty well for being in such a small laptop.. but that cpu will run those games way better than a P4 would... core 2 duo's are more powerful

hmmm could it be cos u aint using a 4mb cache? so is a 4mb cache really worth the money?
no thats not what would cause the problems, if u turn the settings up too high for the videocard to handle the biggest cpu in the world isnt going to help a whole lot... the videocard can only handle so much

I do have the 4mb cache...but I agree with the above comments....10% faster for cpu intensive programs...for gaming your main limitation is the video card. My Core2Duo on this laptop is faster than my P4 desktop at work I use for 3d CAD stuff. I wouldnt worry about the cpu at all!!!!! Plus its only an extra $75 or so to go from the 1.8 to 2.0 if the cache size really bothers you. You could go with the 1 gig of ram, use that money to get the better processor and do the ram upgrade yourself cheaper.
like i said most of the newer games youre not going to be able to play at maximum resolution, etc. but i have had no problems playing games turned down a bit graphically. the 7400GO packs a decent punch for being so small
post #18 of 20
then again it's always easier to upgrade ram than a cpu later on

its quite hard to upgrade ram later on too...delll is smart...they make things come with a catch....for 1gb ram = 2 X 512mb so 2 ram slots are already fully used up...no more spare....u cant choose single stick ram....not for dell xps m1210...
not really, sell the 2 512 sticks and buy 2 1gb sticks.

easier to do that than to open up the laptop, risk voiding your warranty and replacing the cpu.
