Sounds like your ac port is damaged, so when you wrap your cord around you force it to connect for a moment. The manual will not show you how to fix this problem. The manual will only show you how to disassemble it. I strongly believe that you have to re-solder the ac port or change it.

I solved my problem with a media connector that plugs into the side. I replaced my power jack twice before I stopping and ordered the media connector. Your A/C jack plugs right into it and you'll never have the problem again.

it could be that ranbunctious meant a kind of docking station

It is not a docking station. There is a specific connector with this particular laptop. It is called a 'media connector'. It has several cables that come out of it from Svideo to sound to sound output to spdf....and most important...an extra receptacle for your power supply, just like the one at the rear of your PC!!! But, the best part is that this cable screws into your connector so it is very secure and won't wear out. It's a big wad of cables. Some people cut the ones off they don't need. I just tape them up like the snakes pros use on large public address systems. I just hope they don't discontinue this system on future PCs. I was able to purchase mine on Ebay. Good luck.

Click here for info on the XC1000 media cable that will solve all your problems with the bad AC adapter jack. You might find these also on ebay. Just type in xc1000 or media cable.
