8104 Problems, playing videos, LCD burn-in

1. Video problems: When my 8104 is undocked, it will not play videos. By videos I mean DVD's, any video through WMP or VideoLNC player. I've checked all the power settings nothing seems to have any effect. Has anyone had this similar problem? There are no problems playing any video when docked.

2. LCD Burn-in: When I pull the laptop out and use the LCD screen built into it when using any program I can see my desktop background picture burnt into the background. I was under the impression that it was impossible to burn in LCD. The burn-in I'm experiencing looks like a light shadow that can only be seen when viewing a website with a dark background.

3. Bluetooth boot up: as a lower priority is there anyway for windows to start the built in bluetooth device on startup? Thanks.

1) don't use docking, so I cant help for sure. but maybe it's trying to play the video on the external monitor at the same time as the internal one, and you've set the external one to take precedence. Some of the more advanced (ie can be fiddly to use) video players will let you use a different rendering filter, like VMR9 or VMR7, either of which should let you play vdeo on both screens at once, unlike the default "overlay mixer." Try ZoomPlayer or Media Player Classic.

2) my 8104 screen gets a bit of image persistence too. i sometimes see the start button when it's not really there. To get rid of it easily I set my screensaver to "My Pictures Slideshow" and pointed it at a folder with just one image, 1680x1050 of nothing but white (MS Paint or any imaging software should let you make that), set it to change pictures as often as possible, i think the minimum is 6sec, and set the screensaver to come on after 10 mins or so. Leave it overnight for a few nights drawing and redrawing that and the image persistance should be gone.

3) I wish! If you find out let me know!

cheers,

ha, another Jeff.

1) It's when it's not docked, but that is a good idea. However most of the time it will play the begining, like the warnings and stuff from a DVD then just stop and lock up whatever player I'm using. As for video files on the PC I suppose it could be trying to play them through the external monitor I'll make sure that functionality is turned off.

2) That persistence is so strange. I am excited that it's not burn-in and it can be remedied.

3) I think it was turning on automatically when I had Launch Manager installed I think I may reinstall that software, or maybe there's a setting in the registry that someone knows of.

maybe it s a DVD region code thing. try DVD43 or AnyDVD (google them)

what i meant in my previous post about the external monitor taking precedence applies even when the external monitor is not plugged in. Sure the video card can figure out for itself whether or not a 2nd monitor is plugged in, but nobody told windows!

do you mean for BT to be on before windows boots? or just to come on automatically after booting without having to push the BT button on the front? I have launch mgr installed and i never have to push that BT button.

thanks for all your help.

As for the video thing, after you mentioned about the 2nd monitor I monkeyed with the monitor settings for a while and I think I have the video problem worked out.

As for the BT being on after windows loads I'm going to reload launch manager. Sounds like that will solve the problem.
