Sound Issue *8790*

I recieved my Sager 8790 and I love it! I got lucky with a perfect screen and everything else except one thing that I have noticed so far.

My AC97 onboard sound is having some problems. When I have my sound at a decent medium to low volume I can hear little beeps and clicks in the background. Also, when I am on ventrilo I can only use the MIC when it is unmuted. The only problem with this is that when it is unmuted everything is looped back into my headphones.

If anyone has a fix to one or both of these issues please let me know.

Is the sound coming from the inside of the machine or thru the speakers?

Sometimes I hear slight electronic type sounds comming from inside my 8790. Also happened with my old Vaio. Seemed to notice it when I was online every once in a while.

Don't have the problem much now due to the loud cooling fan though.

It's coming out of my headphones. Little beeps!

I will second this issue -- there is a great deal of electronic interference in the sound signal through headphones.
A consistent beep and scratchy sounds are what I hear when there is no audio output.

In the 8890 little beeps like that in the audio were due to the second IR port. Try disabling the IR port, it might get rid of the beeps.

I attest to this problem. Even after muting everything I hear these beebs. Time to disable Infrared, Modem, Firewire and just about everything else that I am not using

LOL

Lemme know if that works, gs!
I'm a little reticent to start uninstalling drivers and disabling hardware until I know it will make a difference

Disabling firewire, IR port, and the modem did not fix the little beeps in my headphones. Any other suggestions are welcome. HELP!

beeps

Try this:
go to the device manager
click on View
click on Show Hidden Devices
expand Non-Plug and Play Drivers
right-click on Beep
click on Disable
you will have to re-start for the beep to go away

Disabling Beep in the device manager did not solve the problem. If anyone has more ideas please inform me! Thanks!

The beeping continues!

I've tried lots of things to get rid of these little beeps in the background when using headphones. I have muted everything possible in the volume control applet. I have disabled many devices in the device manager and I have reduced the sound acceleration and sample rate conversion quality.

Nothing has helped.

I also noticed that the beeps directly match the hard drive activity light's flashes.

I called tech support and they said to try digital headphones. Well, I went to BestBuy and picked up some. I set to digital output only and the sound was horrible! Every sound was all messed up and digitized.

I will call tech support tomorrow and try to get ahold of a level 2 tech. I am getting pretty mad about this problem because after spending 2500 on a laptop I want everything to be perfect! I am going to try a different pair of digital headphones and if the next set of headphones don't work It's time for this 8790 to return home to Sager.

Again, if anyone has any more advice on fixing this problem please let me know!

wait a min... u know why digtal out put makes noise....its for SPDIF out. Digital headphones have nothing to do with digital output. Diitgital headphones still use anagle input.

ERrrr

Well, I feel noob! Umm, well then!

So the tech that said get digital headphones ment something different or did he mean get SPDIF headphones (if they exist).

You see, I was hoping a digital source would not be effected by analog interference.

Let me know what you think!

Exactly what makes a speaker "digital" anyway? I always wondered about speakers or headphones that said they were "digital ready". Its not like they plug into a coax or fiber jack and then process the digital signal - whats the deal?
Most "Digital" headphones are really just "Digital ready". There is not a noticable difference between the two. It is just a marketing tool. Headphones are just little speakers in small boxes designed to reproduce sound with very low voltages. There is no way to make any part of a set of headphones digital. The wireless ones could send digitally, but the headphones will always convert to analog.

Mildly off-topic :-
---------------

I have not found a single laptop with a headphone output that has made me smile...

If you really want good sound you should use a bitstream from the CDROM in the Laptop and give it to a specialized DAC and AMP and then to the output (peakers/headphones).

I started another thread about the Xitel external solution for notebooks...I am using one and I am smiling

Why? Because this device has made my laptop sound as good as my expensive SACD Players!!!

beeping = not acceptable
agreed...but its there...is that worth sending the laptop back when you can do something about it which will probably cost you as much as shipping back to Sager, ordering some other laptop and paying shipping again will cost you...

Think about it...

I dont want to carry around something additional to the laptop! I don't need awsome sound, I just want decent sound that won't give me a headache because of a beep that directly matches the hard drive activity!

I've had issues with the background noise on my 8790 as well. It doesn't seem to happen when unplugged from the power supply. Right now I'm running the SPDIF out to my receiver and it's not nearly as bad as the line out. When running the line out to the reciever I got the noise on every input, not just the one it was plugged into.
Will be getting a 2NX soon.
