Help Upgrading presario c500 series notebook - Page 3

****! Well, it looks like that's that for speedstep. Thanks for being the one to test it.
i cant find the link right now but if you search 940gml+core solo on goole, the second page has a link to a site where someone put in a T1350 on their 940gml chipset. i also heard that the chip has to be from an hp laptop so i have no idea. anyone willing to find an OEM T2050 from an hp/compaq laptop and see if it works in their notebook??? I just got an oem core solo and I will be putting it in my laptop soon. The guy in the aforementioned post also had speed step on the core solo.

T2050 does not work. The one I tried led to the same result as nirvanaguy's T2060. Let us know how the Core Solo works out for you.

I have just finished installing a core solo T1350 @1.87ghz into a compaq presario C503WM
The notebook came with a celeron 430 @1.73ghz

It works perfect.
SuperPi : with celeron: 42.557 sec
with T1350 : 34.975 sec

passmark v 6.1
with celeron: 269.0
with T1350 : 307.7

Everest
with celeron: read - 3334
write - 1126
with T1350: read - 3397
write - 1205

With the new T1350 CPU the system is smoother, and runs programs faster, without the "celeron" type hang ups.

I bought the processor from e-bay for $45 bucks. All in all a good upgrade for $45.

Btw Speedstep does work with this cpu. Idles @ 798 mhz and goes to max 1.86 ghz when in full use.

Has anyone tried upgrading the mini-pci-e wifi card in this laptop? I have the C502US model. When I pop open the back panel, I am pretty sure that it has a broadcom wifi card installed in the mini-pci-e slot.

I tried putting a Atheros AR5008E-3NX card in there but I am getting the following message:

"104 - Unsupported Wireless Network Device Detected. System Halted."

It seems that the Atheros wifi cards are not supported by the C502US. The reason that I want to upgrade to the Atheros card is because I have the DLink DGL-4500 router which is based on Atheros wifi chip. I figured the AR5008E-3NX mini-pci-e card would get better performance with this router than a Broadcom Intensi-fi chip (BroadcomBCM94321MC) or an Intel 4965 chip.

Has anyone successfully installed either the Broadcom BCM94321MC or the Intel 4965 mini-pci express card into a C500 Compaq Presario successfully? I would like to know this prior to jumping in and make another purchase.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I spent over 3 hours trying to get a straight answer from HP but I was extremely disappointed with their customer service. The online help disconnected me several times, and the phone support people have no idea what a white list. I even talked to the wireless support department (if they even have one of those), spent 1+ hours on the phone while the tech support flips through manuals, but no luck. I am a bit tapped out in cash at the moment, but if I get a chance to purchase a card, I will likely go with the BCM94321CM card to see whether that works or not. There is a person on eBay selling the card (from China) for US$53 shipped. I purchased the Atheros card from him. It comes with 3 antennas. But afaik the Broadcom a/b/g/n card looks like it only has 2 wifi antenna connectors soldered on to the board. This eBayer also sells the HPQ version of the BCM94321CM (uses the exact same chip as the Broadcom branded, except that it has the HP part # on the card). I tried to ask him whether BCM card will be identical to the HP branded BCM card, but no replies. The HP card cost $63 shipped. I will report back if I do decide to try out with the upgrade.

There's a nice, somewhat difficult to read, description on replacing the wireless and changing the BIOS in a HP ZE2000 and others, here : http://www.richud.com/HP-Pavilion-104-Bios-Fix/

I'm confused, did the core duo t2250 processor work with the C500 or not?
i would say yes, since many variations of this model come with T2300 installed

cheers ...

Ok, so I'm kinda in the same boat as the original poster. I'm looking to upgrade my Presario C500 mainly for school/work, surfing the internet and occasionally watching a few movies. Now so far I'm planning on buying the following:
-1 GB DDR2-667
-Intel T2250 Dual Core
-120 GB Hard Drive
-Vista Business or XP pro {Only reason I'm thinking of Vista is because my school is in the process of being 100% Vista}

Now I have tried to look for a better video card, but have not been able to find anything. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Also, I'm thinking about upgrading the wireless card so there shouldn't be any problem if I get a Slingbox
post #54 of 292
. u can't upgrade the video card
. after so many posts about replacing the wifi card to a newer (better?) model, i m not convinced in upgrading the card = better connection

cheers ...

I've tried the T2050 and T2250 and they both did not work.

In line with another poster, the T1350 I purchased did work.

This may be a stupid question, but how much is the performance of the T1350 compared to what is already in the C500?
I think I had the Celeron M 440 in mine. Speaking purely on specs, it (the T1350) has twice the L2 cache and that's about it. The T1350 also has Speedstep, so it doesn't run full blast all the time like the Celeron. That was actually what I was interested in the most. Honestly though, I didn't really notice any big difference after the change. Doubling the RAM (2GB) and switching the OS to XP however...

I have just successfully upgraded a C582tu from a M520 ->T1300 ->T2060.

I have been reading and I havent found any others whom have successfully put a dual core into a C500 series.

I have not been able to completely dismantle the laptop to see the chipset but the T1300 ran a 667fsb. Maybe 943gml?

Excelent, I plan to buy a t2250 and a spare hard drive.

I want to try this on a spare hard drive in case something does not work so I can swap back the hard drive and CPU as if nothig happened.

If it works I have a spare hard drive that I can install in my desktop with a conversion kit or save the image of the working hardrive with an activated version of XP for a working backup with unlimited key life.

I will let you know how it works.

well compaq c500 everyone is wrong as it will only accept core duo processors not core 2 duo. I have upgraded several of c500 that had M processors single core and so long as u have upgraded from F.13 bios which only accepts single core to F.14 TO CURRENT F.24A the C500 will accept MO stepping processors for FSB 533mhz so the only cpu that will go in is all M PROCESSORS PLUS THESE , T2060-1.6GHZ, T2080-1.73GHZ, T2130=1.86GHZ. ONLY ACCEPTS MO STEPPING THE NOTES IN THE BIOS .241 UPGRADE MENTIONS T5500 PROCESSOR yes but that is for later models not c300 or c500 If you try to put in core 2 duo processors it will not function only will accept wot have lmentioned I am a tech and know that ones mentioned will only be accepted by the c500 main board etc but c500 with bios of .13 will not accept core duo processors you have to flash the bios and then it will accept either M processors Cintrino or the CORE DUO PROCESSORS MENTIONED. "IT WILL NOT BOOT OR RUN IN ANY OTHER CPU .....FULL STOP
