I have been asked to look at a Travelmate 244lc for a friend who said that until recently the machine was working perfectly when it suddenly powered off and would not restart. I suspected the power adapter had failed without her knowing and the battery had then run down and finally died. I tested the machine with a known working power adapter which made no differece so I then suspected the "Power in jack" on the back of the machine but I found that if I remove the battery and plug in the mains the machine starts up for exactly 7 seconds every time and then powers off meaning it must be getting some power? Nothing ever comes on the screen but the power light comes on and the fans start up so power is obviously getting in.


I have read several threads discussing power issues with this model but could not find anything relating exactly to the problem I am having.

Any help, information would be greatly appreciated.
