How To: Add another laptop to existing wifi network?

Hi guys,

The fedex guy just left. He delivered my very first laptop.

It is currently charging, but when it is done I will need some help.

We have a wireless network already in place here at our small office, with two laptops already working. How do I access that network?

We have a wrt54g v2.2.

Thanks,

Clay

Umm, you go into the computer's wireless utitlity (whether that's Windows based or software based) and you search for your wireless network and then connect.

I tried that back when one of the other laptops came in and was unable to do so. We had to get a tech guy to come in and set it up.

Maybe the wi-fi network had some restrictions on who could and could not connect to it.

Do you by any chance know what the tech guy did to make it work?

Well, obviously, it's time to call that tech guy back in to set up the new laptop...or at least ask him what he did to make the first 2 connect...

Yeah, I think you're right. I was just hoping to get some things up and running before he got here.

I don't really get what the problem is. Connecting a new laptop to an existing wireless network is about as simple as typing in the WEP/whatever password u have and that's it. So as long as you know the code to gain access to the network, it shouldn't require a tech guy to do, as long as you know how to input a single password using a qwerty keyboard.

I guess that's the problem. I don't have the WPA key. When the tech guys gets here I'll make sure I get that key from him. That way I'll know for next time.

Also check if they hace MAC filtering set on. If they did, get the admin username and password for the access point...aw, heck with it, just let those tech guys take care of it.
