HD enclosure dropping firewire connection to my laptop

Hi,
Just like the title states, I'm using a Spire SP121 and it constantly keeps dropping the firewire connection.
I'm using a 6 pin to 4 pin adapter to hook it up to the laptop.

Is there a driver I need to download maybe?

Can someone recommend a decent firewire HD enclosure (3.5 inch IDE, or IDE and SATA)

I'm assuming the Spire 121 has a separate way to get power? 4-pin firewire does not provide power to the device.

If you're getting power through the USB, I would recommend getting a USB splitter to draw power from more than 1 USB hub.

If you're using a direct DC power connection. check your connection, or just chuck the external case and and get another.
