battery life: integrated vs dedicated gpu?

does anyone have any actual numbers for battery life of 2identicle laptops that only differ in igp/gpu in desktop mode (internet/office, not gaming or movies)?


i'm asking for actual numbers because i've been reading various opinions on this. some say dedicated will of course use more battery life, others say in desktop mode it shouldn't matter

It does use more battery and it doesn't matter in desktop mode. Nothing more can be said because the battery consumption depend on the laptop as a whole; the type of battery, type of gpu, etc.

Even tho desktop mode doesn't tax the gpu as much as 3D games and rendering, the fact of the matter is that the gpu is still in the machine, and drawing power (even while displaying the 2D desktop). Remember, the gpu is still used to display anything u see on the laptop, so running a powerful core and memory is gonna be more power consuming than running a weaksauce integrated gpu (even at the most minimalist of settings aka desktop).

I would google "battery life for laptops." I know that integrated will get more even if they are in desktop mode and in normal use.

Go to the chip makers site(s). They will tell you what the power consumption is. Remember though that with dedicated chips you'll have to factor in the additional memory.
