[H]ard Review of a Hypersonic System

Granted this is a review of a desktop system (small form factor) but it gives you an idea of what type of service to expect.

There were many things that Hypersonic could have done better in this evaluation. The most significant problem is that the machine, and its support, are completely average, but Hypersonic is charging premium rates. We've said before that we have no problem with companies charging a price premium. All we ask is that the premium be justified. In this case, we felt that it was not.

That is surprising. Their previous review at [H]ard gave them a silver, and a strong recommendation. I'm considering the new 17" SLI laptop, and *was* looking at Hypersonic.

Now, I'm rather wary about doing so.

Hyper needs to ace the aspire case and make use custom enclosure.

Ouch! [H] usually does good reviews, and I trust them. Its a shame the only company that does custom paint jobs directly is so good...

yeah i thought hypersonic-pc was a pretty good company, high reseller ratings, decent prices (for laptops), and no issues with the BBB

as of 12/29/06 their 6 month reseller rating was a respectable 8.89/10

as of 3/22/07 it's a 5/10

ouch

So of all the boutique outfits who is the best? From what I can read all of them are getting the same slamming from reviewers and customers.

No doubt because there is an increase on purchasing due to new chips and software. With the demand high, the boutiques are stretched with orders, customer service gets lax, and the complaints increase.

Put it this way, the boutiques have been discovered and are in demand. The public is finding out that small maybe better.

Remember they are boutiques, not Dell or HP with huge assembly lines. And even they are getting slammed on service so no one is clean.

Im not defending or complaining about Hype. If you feel you got a bad deal you have the right to return it. If you feel that you are not getting the support you expected, then address the issue with the company, seek some resolve, file your complaint with the BBB or other review sites and move on. At least you experienced it and will know what NOT to do the next time.

I had several Gateways, out of all of them I had one lemon. It didnt stop me from buying from them again, they had solid machines at the time.

Its like the "World According to Garp", the odds of a plane slamming into your house AGAIN is what, a million to one long shot?

Falcon Northwest has the best cutomer support, they have the best ratings but they have some real hefty prices.........

I think they are the ONLY one who rise above the smoke here. And you are right, you are paying for it. Then again because of their pricing you do not have everyone busting down their doors. They can afford to talk with their clients one on one.

I came very close to getting one but for the cost of getting the exact same thing for less at Hype, and I know PowerPC and their Sager's are lower, I went with Hype. Same people who did Falcon paints are doing Hype's paint jobs, and well PowerPC, if they put some color into it, it would run about the same as Hype.

The only reason why I went with Hype is that I know where they are and what subway to take.

One thing about this review is that they were dealing with an SFF machine. Now I have to say this I do not like the case either. I have an SFF Monarch Hornet Pro, and I have been reading and hearing about Monarch crashing through the basement due to some unethical business practices. I have no complaints about my Hornet Pro. I got it before the shenanigans happened at Monarch and lucked out. And anyone else who has one would probably agree that the Hornets are one of the best SFF's ever made. I am disappointed that I cannot find the cases they used, if I could I would be making them myself. They are extremely easy to work with, I can swap out cards in less time than it takes to tie my shoes. If Hype were to get ahold of these it would be great. They are simply a great machine to experiment with.

This may be, but if you look closer there is only 3 reviews that came after 12/29/06. Their rating system isn't very good if it only reflects 3 reviews for 3 months, out of what could be hundreds of orders.

Yeah what happened? How did they go from an 8.9 to a 5? I don't what a company could do to bring it down a whole 3.9 points...

I'm disappointed at how hypersonic wired their cables. Even I did a better job when I did it for my mom.
I'll upload pix if somebody requests for them, seeing as how I've been too lazy to write my review.

Like for their power supply, I can understand not wanting to use a stock one, but unscrewing it and changing airflow direction if needed isn't that big of a task, especially if somebody is paying 2.5g's.
And for cabling, they should have put the optical drive in the top bay so that the cables can be hid in the 2nd bay's spot.

But there were two points where I felt that [H] were being too rough.
1. You don't need to remove the power supply to get at the cards, Aspire though it out by making the mobo tray removable. Not the best removable mobo tray, but it works. Just need to disconnect the rest of the wires, such as the 20/4 pin atx connector
2. The big tape was for the temperature monitor. But maybe there were excessive tapes? haha I like cable ties :]

They may've been a little too harsh but [H] is like where a ton of hardcore PC builders/modders go. Man some people over their know everything about response time, coding, painting, phase changing, resolutions, ect.
