Xps M1210

Thread Starter
My Inspiron 710M's screen was messed up so Dell sent me a XPS M1210. Now I have this machine which seems to be superior (though the screen is much worse) but my main problem is that it is noisy as hell. The face turns on a lot which isnt that bad, but i also have that processor sqeek that comes from desktop computers but not my 710m. Like when i do certain fuctions that use the process, which I havent seen on other dells or insiprons (ive seen a lot of IBMs with is). Is this all XPS M1210 that are noisy like this or should i have dell send me a new one? Is there anythign i cna do to reduce the sound (even if it means making the computer slower i dont care, i just want the sound gone)

I've never heard the sound u speak of... my M1210 runs extremely quiet

My m1210 is extremely quiet too. Even when I'm doing processor heavy work, the only noise is from the fan and it's not loud at all. I'd contact Dell.

When you say "squeek," do you mean whine? if so, it is your fan and not your processor.

mine is also really quiet. i dont have problems with noise for now.

sound

Mine so far is relatively quiet. Not silent like the lattitude x1 without the fan,
but way quieter than any I've had.

4ster is right, dell is known to have "whine" noises coming from their hard drives, even when in perfect condition. If you are positive its not the hard drive or the fans, you should contact dell.

Yea the screen isn't as good as the 710M.. but the full size keyboard is such a blessing on the M1210 lol..

As for the noise/squeek/whine ... like everyone else said, no issues here [knock on wood] ...

Safirsky, If you haven't already contact Dell support about your computer I will be more than happy to help you with it. I am a customer advocate here at Dell headquarters in Texas. If you did need my help, just shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do for you. What you describe does not sound like the normal behavior for a XPS M1210.

hey
ive had my m1210 for about 2 months now and i also have a noticeable whine/squeak coming from what appears to be the processor area. ive only had one other laptop and i wasnt too sure if this was normal or not. it's definitely not the fan, so i'll contact DellCA about it i guess.

guys,

i own a dell xps m1210 too. the problem that i'm having is the bluetooth. i couldn't receive any files from other bluetooth devices (when i say couldn't, means reallyyyy couldn't). i ever open a thread here, regarding my bluetooth, and someone responded, probably dell give me the old model bluetooth.

i don't know where to check my bluetooth model. but from bluetooth configuration, the only things i could fine is this : -

1. WIDOMM Bluetooth Software 5.0.1.2609
2. Dell Wireless 355 Module with Bluetooth 2.0 + E...... (can't see the end of it)

sorry, i don't want to make a new thread, hope anyone here could help me with it. been having the problem since the 1st day i bought the notebook. that is june 2006.

The Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth module is the newest version we ship with our systems.

Check the Bluetooth configuration to make sure file transfer is enabled. If nothing else you might try uninstalling the software for it (Add & Remove Programs) then installing the latest driver for the card (http://ftp.dell.com/network/R127314.EXE) from the Dell support site (http://support.dell.com/support/down...&catid=&impid=) and then restarting the computer.

After restarting you will need to run the Bluetooth Setup Wizard. Make sure you enable file transfer as a supported protocol when you run it. If that doesn't fix the problem either let me know or give Dell tech support a call.
