Dell does things strange.... though it certainly is faster than waiting for straight 5-day ground.
They actually somehow ship your unit overnight to your "local" UPS distribution hub. I don't know exactly how (or what method they use). I believe their US Distribution center for Notebooks is in Nashville (I *think*, I know it's somewhere down south where necks are red). From there, shipments can either go straight out via FedEx (my first iXPS arrived that way), or they can get overnighted to your "regional" UPS shipping hub (my replacement that arrived today showed up that way). I'm in the Metro NYC area in New Jersey, but my regional hub for UPS is in Harrisburg, PA.
So, it seems to go like this:
1. Dell claims unit is shipped (friday morning) but isn't trackable with the numbers given.
2. Unit travels from Nashville logistics center to your regional hub (friday to sat.)
3. Package is scanned at UPS (saturday), and is now "trackable"
4. Package is out for delivery (sunday it's loaded on the truck)
5. Package is delivered (Monday afternoon)
That's how it worked for me. YMMV.
