Dead TM 8204

Thread Starter
Alrighty, my friend has a Travelmate 8204, with WinXP Pro. He was trying to turn it on yesterday; it would show the Acer boot screen, then it would just sit there with a blank screen, with a white dash on the top left hand corner of the screen. After a while, it would say "Can not Boot because Windows File is corrupted". I'm typing this in class right now so I can not recall exactly the message, but I DO remember part of the file path was *Windows32/System/Config*. Putting in the Acer Recovery Disk and pressing F2 only leads to Blueish-green message *Acer Secret Platinum verifying...* and then it would stop. What should I do with that?
Should I try to boot it up with some other OS (linux, etc), try to get an external enclosure and retrieve the data, then send it back to Acer to have them fix it? How would Acer attempt to fix it? Perhaps wipe the hard drive and reinstall WinXP? Please help! Thanks!

Well if you have a Windows disc, you can try and restore the system files. Or even reinstall Windows on top.

My guess is you only have a recovery disk. If you had data in your C: drive, it could be overwritten. Booting up with Windows disc or other OS may be your best bet to get the data off before trying anything like a recovery or reformat.
