How long for system replacement

ok, so dell finally broke and is sending me a replacement for my 9300. the syste exchange was set up today and the tech told me it will take 5-21 days for it to ship does it really take damn near a month to figure out what kind of laptop to send and then build it? so my question is is there ever any situations where it takes less time? can people who have had this done chime in on how long it took you? because if i cant get back to work for the better part of a month, im gonna be pulling my hair out. also, what kind of replacement can i expect? heres my specs:

1.6 dothan
1gb
40gb
6800go
wuxga
of course ive upgraded but thats what i ordered

oh also, is there anyway to check the status of it while its "being built"?

They don't build a new computer for you, they take a refurb. one they have and use it to replace.

You'll probably get: 1/2gb ram---(should get)7900GS---60/80gb hd---at least 1.73ghz C2D---WUXGA

well thats awesome to hear, any idea how long it will take em? and anyway to check the status? and whats the chances i'll get the crapass video card? i made it very clear with the tech that i need to video card for my work and he said he'd make a note of it, prolly wont make a difference, but im gonna throw a fit if they stick a 1400 in there

I'd say their estimate is valid, mine took just about a month due to complications.

Basically, keep looking at the website and once they have your system, it'll show up under your orders section of your Dell account page

obvious not what you want to hear...but I'd give it a 50% chance of happening that you get a 7900GS

Generally their "notes" are non existent and you'll get what you get. Generally getting them to fix the order up from x1400 to 7900GS doesn't take too long....but it's a pain none-the-less. I wish you luck! I also apologize for not welcoming you to the forums welcome welcome welcome! I think you'll enjoy the stay

wow, i was bummed by all your answers...how can it possibly take a month to send out a re-furbed laptop?

Haha, sorry for giving you some bad news.

My system was delayed because they had a hard time finding a suitable match

yeah, thats just ridiclulous to me, ive got on site and next day service for a reason, i'll be calling them everyday til i know something, not having my laptop puts me out of business

Well- I had a Gen1 XPS (3.4Ghz P4 w/HT- 512MB RAM - Radeon 9700) and they are replacing it with an XPS 1710- T7600 2.33 Core Two Duo, 1GB RAM, 7900GS 256MB- it took about 10 business days to get here from the order date.

And if you look into your warranty next business day is only for components- not the full machine. I'm in Canada though, and my warranty is from almost 4 years ago- so it could have changed.

Good luck, my laptop choosing to 'die' worked out well for me

Yeah, next day doesn't get you a system next day

It really depends, some ppl will get their replacement in 8 days, some like me have to wait a month for it to get here.

how long after you were told you were getting an exchange did you get the order number so you could look up what you were getting?

it has taken me a little over a week in the past. all you have to do is log into your dell account, and see when the new order # link appears. it seems like it only shows up after they actually start building the laptop (took mine 3 or 4 days to show up), and it'll show a full spec sheet of your replacement. i recieved the replacement a little over a week after my the initial contact with the techs.

I prolly have on of the better storys here. FIrst of all, p donket, in my experiance if they say they are "building" you a new laptop, that generally meant the laptop would be new. I called about a month after I got my laptop because the back of the laptop broke (fell of a desk). It would wabout 3am on a Friday morning and I told them I was going on vacation that Saturday. After he said they will be building me a new lappy he sent me off to a supervisor and the supervisor expidited the build. I had the new laptop in my hands on Wednesday sometime in the afternoon. Mind you, it wasnt even at my home. They had it sent to my Condo where I was staying...

If they said they'd build you a new one, then maybe so. But generally they don't build the customer a brand new system, they give them a refurbished to cut down on cost

My replacement took 9 days and it's came way way way better than my dead XPS M170 my replace is in my sig

well i was told it was being expidited by a supervisor, so hopefully thats true, i really dont care if its new or refurbed as long as its working and close to my specs. but we'll see. when i call they say to check on monday and that theyre going as fast as they can. im probably the most impatient person to grace dell's phone system and i will call everyday until ive got a straight answer. but anyway, keep on adding your experiences, times and what they replaced ya with

Sadly I got a replacement that was REALLY accurate to my old, which saddened me of course, since I was looking for an upgrade...such as what Crazy4Dell got (for example). I guess core 2 and a GS for my 6800 and P-M is good, but for the problems i went through it didn't really feel as good as I thought it would be.

That expediting stuff they give you is total crap, i've had my things "expedited" many times and they take just as much time as the same thing being replaced at another point.

I too talked to them constantly trying to get updates on the systems out of them, but they reverted to robots and repeated the same things 5 times over.

I was speaking with Elevated Response technicians, both Americans (or sure sounded so). I haven't had the best experiences with Dell tech's.

well, the tech who has been helping me has been really cool, he said it was his supervisor but who knows... pd it sounds like you just have it in for dell...lol im not really expecting an upgrade, i mean a working system would be fine with me, it they gave me core2duo, i would be happy, but as long as its at least what i got now.
