Good t.v. tuners

I want a good t.v. tuner for my cable tv. I live in a small dorm room, and am getting SDTV res with a crappy old 19" RCA. I'd like to watch t.v. on my 19" LCD in 1280X1024 and pitch the t.v. and have extra desk space.

Since Im a notebook user, I'd prefer a USB tuner over a PCMIA. What do you recommend?

Here's a pretty good list of what's out there. I've been using a Hauppauge PVR USB2 for a couple of years now and still haven't felt an urge to change.

Do you mean... TV signal directly to your monitor through VGA?

I've got an HP Dual TV Tuner I could sell you for $100. USB TV Tuner that lets you record 2 shows while watching a pre-recorded one. It's a rebranded Adaptec AVC-3610. PM me if you're interested. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't us it as much as I thought I would.

Whatever you recommend, I'm a little uninformed. I have a asus notebook, and a 19" external LCD that I plug my notebook into occasionally to play games on. I want to watch t.v. for the best price/performance combination possible, whether its a t.v. tuner, slingbox, or what you suggested.

Edit: But the tuner's the only way to have DVR without paying a fortune for tivo, right? That'd be worth it for me, because DVR isnt included in my cable package at school.
