new xps laptops (geforce 8800) coming in one month - Page 2

Yeah they are "concepts" but I wouldn't mind if they did what they did with the XPS 710 H2C or whatever. Make it really expensive but make it open to the public. That blue one with the skulls is truly amazing! Is that Smooth Creations that painted those? Also, the green is outstanding too

the new 8800 is probably based on 80nm, and most of you shouldn't be doubtful about it being released. Though i do not completely trust sales reps as sometimes they frankly speak bullocks, all i can say is that an 8800 go should released within the next couple of months (April/may) rather than the end of the year. Believe it or not its not the engineering feat of the year to fit a single 8800 in a laptop without melting it.

There is no new 8800, and there will not be a new 8800. There is a 5 month old 8800, the G80. The new 8900 will be based on 80nm, and named G81. They are due out for desktops in May, therefore, i highly doubt there will be a mobile version in April. 90nm and most likely 80nm chips will require too much power and put out too much heat to be crammed in a laptop, therefore, there will most likely not be an 8xxx series Go, and most definitely not a 8800 Go. Expect a G90 series sometime this Summer for desktops, and possibly a Go as well at the same time or not far behind, probably late Summer such as August, as NVidia is moving to 65 or 55 at the end of Q2/beginning of Q3 at best, putting a G90 Go series GPU out end of Q3 at best.

I don't believe it, and I happen to know a thing or two about the subject. Besides, given the situation as laid out by nissanztt90 above (and by him and quite a few others, including myself, repeatedly before...), offering such a card would make no sense whatsoever from any perspective. Conclusion: It's not going to happen, period, end of sentence.

There are G84 Go and G86 Go (both low[er] end) in a few unreleased laptops, atm.

Umm there already 8xxx seris in laptops, and numerous reports of the 8800go, So I would really like to know were you get your information that there would not be any 8xxx series?

Indeed you are both correct. Most of the discussion surrounding mobile DX10 chips consists of high-end DX10, ie there will not be a G80 Go due to heat. G84 and G86 are quite a bit less powerful and therefore not as much as a debateable topic as to when they will be released, never-the-less, i forgot to specify. I quite simply should have stated there will most likely not be a high end 8xxx series, or more specifically no 88xx Go, and most likely no 89xx Go. The reports of the 8800 Go are incorrect, and often by sources such as the Inquirer who reported a DX10 Go in some laptop, then later in the same article admitted it was only a 7950 GTX. Not the most reliable of sources. At this point there is nothing more than speculation as to when these chips will be released, and it doesnt take much deduction to figure out that these chips will not be out next month, and most likely not until NVidias die shrink, which means no high end 8xxx series. Myself and other have stated this time and time again, yet you refuse to listen.

You can state it fact as much as you want but as far as it goes what you guys believe about the high-end go8xxx is just as much speculation as the various reports out about the go8800,

so please don't complain if someone doesn't listen to you because you don't have the final word.

These topics are always bludgeoned to hell and back xD it's always fun to sit on the sidelines and watch.

My speculation is also considerably less biased seeing as how im not running a reporting website and dont need to attract any attention what-so-ever. Again, i use the Inquirer example, the title states something like High End DX10 Spotted in Notebooks....and you actually read the article and the laptop has a 7950 GTX. Even the one about high end DX10 in SLI which was untrue...they just want attention.

I did not complain, i stated that you refuse to listen and you are entitled to do whatever you want but with a bit of common sense, a little knowledge, and some decent deduction powers you can easily see there will not be an 8800 Go based on G80, which means no high-end DX10 until summer. Or you could just listen to us...but hey, like i said, if you wanna hope for an 8800 Go based on G80 and it will be out within a month, go right ahead its not gonna bother me at all.

No I think they're gonna do something like the 7950 GTX and the 7900 GTX. One really good, then another one thats better.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't care about how the notebook looks. I don't think Dell notebooks need an external redesign.

All I care about is three things; size, weight, and specs. Price to a certain extent, but that's obvious.

Although, I take exception at IBM/Lenovo laptops. Not only are those things ugly and look like 486 notebooks, but they're uncomfortable to use because of their antiquated formfactor. But that's less of a cosmetic thing and more of a comfort thing. Lots of sharp angles and pointy things to jab you.

I guess I just want my laptop to look good, as well as perform well. I mean, if I were to shell out $2000+ for a gaming laptop, I want it to look great as well as perform well.

I'm the same, the notebook appearance is bottom of my list of priorities - I think the current XPS chassis is the best out there due to its ability to efficiently and quietly deal with heat even under full load. I would rather Dell kept it exactly the same, I've not been impressed with some of the Latitude redesigns which do look better than their predecessors but at the cost of functionality and reliability. My XPS 2 is still running faithfully after almost two years, I want to be able to say the same for its replacement.

I heard they are coming out with a redesign. they are going to cut hole into the side of the laptop, gut the express slot & Smart card reader & put a PCI Express x16 slot there. In addition they will be uping the power brick to 220 watts & provide a second power connector to plug in the card.

Same, looks are for your friends/co-workers. I spend about all my time looking at my screen and keyboard when gaming/working. I spend all of about 5 seconds looking at the actual laptop when I open it up and turn it on. Price, performance, size, weight, features and longevity....those are what I look for. If you want the flash, go for something from Voodoo or Falcon NW.

Remember someone used to post pictures of new dell laptops before they were released from the US goverment site which tests them for electromagnetic radiation?

Don't have the link anymore...
