5720 Suddenly will NOT display video.

Ok so I'm at a lan party. Everything is going fine. I decide to turn off my computer and go grab some food, watch some teams compete, play the wii, and etc. Anyway I come back and when i turn my PC on everything can be heard as usual. However no video comes up. The screen just stays black. It does not flicker or anything. I tried restarting like 20 times to no avail. What should I do!!! Is there something that I pressed?? I really do not want to send it out to service unless I absolutely have to and my parents would be really mad about me taking it to a lan and it breaking (just my luck).

Please help me out. Point me to some tech support or someone I can call. I ordered it from PC Torque last April and I believe i got an additional year extended warranty. I'll have to dig up my papers to be sure. Anyway please please please help me!!! Is opening up anything besides the battery slot voiding the warranty. Maybe a vdeo cable (if there is one) got unplugged and its a simple fix.

Thanks a lot!!!

Happened to me too, two times. My workaround (not that I'd call it a solution) was to open the bottom of the 5720, removing the MXM module and cleaning any contacts involved. Same procedure applied to the display connector located near the MXM board. Did help two times, but otherwise the issue might be a symptom of an upcoming malfunction.

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. I hope it's not too late but did you recently change your display drivers?

In any case, it could simply be the monitor key. Sometimes I use this as a cheap security tool to keep people from looking at my screen when I step away from the notebook.

Press Fn-F7 to change the monitor default from internal to external. The screen will go black until you press it again. Maybe this is all the problem is.

Assuming you are serious.....

Keep in mind that most people post messages in here or other message boards when they have a problem, not when things are working smoothly. The components in PCs, including laptops, are pretty generic these days and it is just a matter of the assembly, presentation, marketing, and most importantly support provided after the sale that distinguishes one brand from another.

I've had at least minor issues with every computer I've ever purchased and those I've built myself. I wouldn't necessarily discount a brand because of one bad experience as long as they supported the product.
