S.T.A.L.K.E.R - mouse lag, super slow on I9300 w/ 7800 GTX!

Thread Starter
Has anyone tried the game yet?

I have 2.25Ghz P-M, 2Gb of RAM, 7800 GTX 256Mb.

With dynamic lights on (full or objects-only) I get really bad mouse lag. Using pre-render limit = 0 in RivaTuner does nothing.

I can only use static lights to get playable FPS.

I am using 93.81 drivers.

I try playing at 1280x800 and even at lowest settings I get like 40fps average.

Anyone tried to play the game yet? What FPS are you getting? You can use fraps or "rs_stats on" command without the " ".

Do you get swimming mouse/mouse lag/delayed mouse?

yeah this game just runs crappy for some reason, bad coding. not many people are getting playable framerates. the solution for speed so far has been to turn off dynamic lighting...bah, looks like a boring game anyway.

Mine is the same way on the machine in my sig but its because the game is barely using my second core at all. It will lag really bad to the point where I cant play it. You on the other hand dont have a dual core so I have no clue.

40 FPS is really good! Why are you complaining? Hell 20 fps is playable, I do it all the time.

Wow, I thought considering how long the game took to come out that they'd have it running good. Maybe I'll hold off on this one for now.

It sucks though since PC FPS's seem scarce right now and this game sounded fun. Would you guys that have the game recommend getting it anyways?

thanks.

Yeah its real fun and worth the buy

I play at "maximal" settings @ 1024x768/full dynamic lightning/no grass shadows, and usually get 30-60+ fps.
No mouse lag observed so far.

danton, do me a favor if you will. Pull up the task manager and stretch it out as far as you can. Click the performance tab, then run the game with your normal settings. Play for about 10 minutes and then press Alt+Tab so switch to the task manager. At this point press Ctrl+Alt+Print Screen. This will copy a pic of your task manager. Use paint or something like that and just paste the image and save as. Then email it to me. The reason I want this is because you have the same CPU and RAM as me and I want to see if your CPU is doing what mine is.

I p/med you my email.

The game just cannot use multiple cores. Another question is why it uses 100% CPU all the time - is it so severely CPU-limited or is it just due to coding peculiarities?

20 fps in a first person shooter? just not exceptable in my book

danton, FSX is just like this game in terms of it only really using one core. It is so bad that I just choose not to play it and hope a patch comes out for it. I havent had time to check to see if the Stalker patch help with that or not but I will report back when I do.

Most modern games are still single-core. It's quite unlikely that a patch will make either game multicore-friendly. The game engine must be designed from the ground up (or, at the very least, significantly redesigned) to take advantage of multiple cores.

nVidia is reworking their drivers for STALKER or as some know it as, Slutty Teenage American Lesbians Killing Everyone Radioactively.

Edit: Nevermind, those drivers are for the 8800 series cards.
