Alienware Product Manager Asks....

If you could "fix" five things about PC gaming, what would these things be?

Ideas to get you started thinking:

1) Game installation / update process (no further explanation necessary)
2) Image / rendering option confusion (driver AA/AF vs. in-game AA/AF, which does what?)
3) Disconnected community / ecosystem (XBOX Live has its advantages)
4) Two-foot experience / not ten-foot experience optimized (stuck playing at a desk - option to take the game to the living-room big screen would be welcomed)
5) ...

1) Make myself a gaming god.
2) Universal game patch/driver update system.
3) Hack free games.
4) Motorstorm for PC.
5) Faster internet speeds and volume.

Muhahaha ... You don't have Motorstorm, Hammer (evil laugh)?

PC gaming today ain't all bad. I don't like having to use update systems like Steam (altho I've not had issues with many other update or on-line gaming sites), and I much prefer not to have to put a DVD/CD in the drive to play a game (prefer a setup like GuildWars - CD free gaming).

Other than that, my two biggest issues are 1) Lack of Widescreen and higher resolution support. Come on, folks, 24" widescreen monitors aren't just for geeks! and 2) it's sometimes difficult to configure SLI profiles ... usually can be done, with a little google action.

Xbox Live is nice, because it's a one stop shop ... but it's not all bad having specific servers for individual games.

(Thanks for asking, Kevin. And note, I'm still doing my virtual configuring ... playing a little waiting game on that new Alienware desktop).

1- Widescreen resolutions so I can see
2- No more cd-rom based releases that take 4 discs to load a game
3- Never let anyone with a high ping rate join low ping servers EVER!
4- Better mobile system video card driver updates or at least update them instead of forcing people to mod the desktop versions to accomodate us mobile gamers.
5- Instead of graphic options maybe an option that gives choice of which framerate you want to play at and what your system is capable of.

(edit) Motorstorm is really really awesome. On that note the PS3 is finally showing what that cell processor can do in folding@home. Now if they could just use all that power with a good 50gb HD game say like "Assassins Creed"

I want motorstorm, but my wife won't let me spend that much to buy a console for just one game...

(apologies to all for the digression: HH ... so far Motorstorm is the only game I've played on my PS3 (a little MLB 2K7, but that's a 360 title too). Definitely not worth it if you don't want Blu-ray.

Same goes here HH. You're wife is actually pretty smart cause you can wait a while (long) longer until the price goes down or there are more good games.

Hey maybe I can just send you my PS3 to try out for a while. I've got a 2 year replacement plan from Best Buy so I'm not worried as long as I've got something resembling a PS3 they will just give me a new one on the spot. Besides playing Motorstorm my PS3 doesn't get much attention.

1. All games released on DVD
2. Not all games made for High End PC's
3. Something like G4TV, but it like a real gaming show. And you can watch it on your PC. It'll show like dev interviews, reviews, previews, coverage for MLG, Cyber Games, ect. (Don't know if thats directly relates to PC gaming...)
4. Some kind of filter that'll find you a server with players with your type of ping. So some idiot with high ping joins in onto a perfect game and messes it up.
5. Open Engines. Not only on Source games, but I want like games using the UE3 to have the engine and everything open
