My friend's Amilo L7310GW's DVD+-RW drive is dead. It's a Philips SDVD8431.
Getting it out is easy - just remove a small screw and it slides out. The problem is getting a replacement. This drive only seems to be available used, with only a week's warranty etc. (here in the UK) and it gets bad reviews anyway.
What drive could I replace it with and what do I need to know? The label on the drive says "GBAS/101/DE."
Would any DVD drive fit if I took the rail off the old drive?
How interchangeable are bezels? (The drve's bezel is easily removed too.)
Would something like Nero work with a new drive or would it baulk at one?
Any advice or recommendation is greatly appreciated. Fitting a new drive is the easy part - getting the right one is the hard bit!
