Disabling Dell Touchpad's double-tap

Hi everyone,

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running on Windows XP Pro. Recently I installed a wonderful A4 Tech USB mouse. But an irritating problem that has cropped up. Now my accidental touching of the Dell Touchpad frequently causes the cursor to jump in the middle of my typing. (This seldom happened previously.)

I tried going into the Control Panel Mouse settings to try to disable the touchpad, but all the mouse settings there now are only for the A4Tech mouse (because of the driver I installed). I don't know where to change the Dell Synaptics settings now.

I do not wish to uninstall the A4Tech mouse.

Is there anything I can do to disable just the double-tap action of the Touchpad? I don't want to disable the Touchpad completely, cos I might need it if I don't have my mouse.

If this is not possible, does anyone have any tips on how I can physically prevent this cursor jumping problem? (I tried putting a piece of paper on the touchpad, but it still responds to double-taps).

Thanks for the help!

Interesting. On my M1210, My mouse control panel has all the Synaptics tabs as well as the mouse tabs. Mind you, I'm using a Logitech mouse that has a separate app for its controls.

Have you tried re-installing the Synaptics driver? You may have to re-install the A4 tech driver again but you can change your touchpad settings before that.

Does the A4 Tech site say anything about running two pointer devices?

Thanks Bob. Let me go rummage thru my stack of CDs that came with my laptop. I don't see anything on the A4 Tech site about running two pointer devices.

Right click on the touchpad icon on the taskbar(next to the clock) and untick "tap to click", this might help.

I was pretty sure both synaptics and alps had settings to disable the touchpad when a usb mouse is present. Btw, I have an alps touchpad and I use this feature
