Hey all just saw an article on the Asus GX station thought it was worth a mention.

Which plugs into the express slot and utillises a Desktop GFX card to give any laptop high end gaming possibilities!

http://www.beyond3d.com/content/news/134

http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39...9286742,00.htm

with it you could have DX10 on ya laptop right now.

I wonder if you can SLi them how many expres slots can i gt on a laptop...

Old news and the expresscard slot is equivalent to a PCIe 1x, so dont count on high end cards doing anything in there.

but I do agree this is the start. You will start seeing External PCI-E x16 slots so when you are at home, you have a full fledged GPU, but when on the road restored to a on-board gpu for max battery life.

one of the rumor sites (I think it was engadget) said that the next version would be fully PCI x16 capable, there's hope

it would still need a different slot...

expresscard slot is not "PCI-EX 1X"
The ExpressCard has a maximum throughput of 2.5 Gbit/s through PCI Express

Your confusing Gbits with GBits. Its basically a PCIe 1x for all intents and purposes related to a GPU. From wikipedia: PCIe is a flexible hybrid serial-parallel interface format. That is, it uses serial interconnects which can be arbitrarilly bonded together (see Channel bonding) to form a single higher-speed interconnect. PCIe 1.1 transfers data at 250 MB/s in each direction per lane. First-generation PCIe is often quoted to support a data rate of 250 MB/s in each direction, per lane. This figure is a calculation from the physical signalling rate (2.5 Gbaud) divided by the encoding overhead (10bits/byte.) This means a 16 lane (x16) PCIe card would then be theoretically capable of 250 * 16 = 4 GB/s in each direction. From the first selection, 2.5 Gbits = 250 MB From the second selection, 16x would be 16x 250MB, or 4GB, not 4Gb.

Sorry for old news but hey its good news i hope they fix the 16x problem and enable it like a TV card to fed the image back to the laptop screen.

Hey you could condensation proof it and drop it in the fridge for some extreme gaming :P

Loads of other cool stuff at cebit though things look good.

didnt really have anything to add just need to do somthing until i can get down the post office and get my Wii , maybe i should practice my red steal poses some more..

Im sure they will overcome the bandwidth problem very quickly although if its fed back into the laptop screen with a tv tuner type there would be that delay. I think once an external GPU solution is more mainstream they may just put an input for the screen on the laptop.

Personally, anything to do with ASUS i stay well away from!!! I had soome problems with my ASUS A8N-SLI Delux and had to sell it on ebay to get my money back (sorry customer but they never noticed!!!) and get a proper MoBO made by DFI. 2nd network made the computer freezxe (so i turned it off) and north-bridge chip was a joke. Overheated and had replace the H/S and fan myself. And as for top end overclocking potential, they have some serious issues which are shown in the link below which would put anyone off i think. Impossible customer service, it just doesnt exist!!!

Here's an article reviewing ASUS as a company with some shocking stuff!!!

YOu been warned by a scored, once proud owner of ASUS equipment!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!

Well im just putting a word of warning out and at end of the day it is my opinion. Noticed that website is no longer up, Shame. WHat it showed is ALL of ASUS's MoBo's have Voltage fluctuations, in some cases nearly 1V +/- what you want!!! Anyone with any common sense knows this is A BAD THING!!! and yes, it was EVERY MoBo they make currently!!! And they couldn't get in touch with customer service, THey were scored 1 out of 10 and that was because the parts they use were actually of high standard. Just there work was appaling!!!

Dont flame me for giving advice of what i found out unfortunatly myself and from other's. If you use my advice is down to you. Just a word of warning

I find it odd that there has been a problem with every Asus motherboard out there...I also have the A8N-SLI Deluxe and it's been going strong for two years. As you said, it is just your opinion. Sorry you had a problem.

Asus makes a lot of good products. Yes, they may have a few problems at times, but I'm not sure there is a tech company out there that doesn't.

i didnt mean use a TV card i ment you can get tv cards for an express slot which is feeding the image to the screen, so they should be able to do that with the Station.

And on the note of ASUS being good or bad i say if you dont investigate the specific product ( forget about generalising anything ) then you may not get what you want. but i have had good and bad experiences with asus, as i have DF! abit Gigabyte and others. and same with any electronics. Personally i always found abit the more problamatic out the box but the easiest to mod.
