Ok amigos, my new intel wifi card came in and I am ready to install it in Unbuntu Edgy. Whats the correct way of installing new hardware in Ubuntu? I was hoping for it to detect it and do its thing but it didnt . I don't want to do something wrong because my current setup is running very nicely. Thanks for the advice.

I'm not entirely sure this will work...
But I would install the hardware (aka the wireless card) and boot into the command line. log in using your name and reconfigure xorg.. theres a command i can't recall to do it. I'm sure you can google it.
I think thats what you have to do, but im not entirely sure, wait til other forum members post.

Also, if my way is right, you'll lose beryl (as I know you are extremely fond of it) and you'll have to re-set it up

BIGEE....i am way too confused as why you told him to edit his xorg.conf to install a wireless card

that said, all you need to do is make sure you got the right modules and install those.... since its intel there should be native ones available. if not, just loaded up ndiswrapper and get cracking on that.

ah sorry, I never had to install new hardware on a linux machine (I am still a fairly new user). I was just thinking off the top of my head.

So yeah, disregard my advice.

abf where do I get modules for Linux? I know when i boot up on Ubuntu Live CD it works out of the cd. How do I extract them and make them get install on my hard drive?

The card is a a Intel PRO/WIRELESS 3945ABG

The card works out of the Live CD but it wont on my hard drive version of Ubuntu.

Bigtrouble there isnt much help in the forums because the card works after a clean install and I really dont want to re-install Ubuntu, when I have it running so well. I will keep searching tought. Thanks

just a guess but the module is most likely ipw3945. It's ipw2100 for my 2100 card. Try to modprobe the module. It may or may not be there already. Just not in the modules.autoload. here's the source forge page. http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net/
