What is Louder Sager or Alienware?

Hello all,

(I posted a similar message in the Alienware boards. Just wanted to see what you Sager users have to say)

I am getting ready to go to law school this next year. In preparation I am going to buy me a new laptop. I am also an avid gamer....

I have done my research and am leaning to a Sager or Alienware laptop. Dell just doesn't float my boat. Had it as an undergrad....need the goodies for law school.

I have read the posts where the Area 51m and Sager have been compared to eachother. They both look great. Looks like there are equal amount of likes and dislikes from users for both of them.

My main concern is the amount of noise (fan noise) these laptops produce. I will be taking it into class and I don't want my classmates to be deaf by the end of class. I have read the posts dealing with the loudness of the Sager and have only read a bit on the volume of the Area 51m.

I know that in gaming laptops the fan noise will inevitably be loud compared to standard laptops, especially when I will be playing games....not that I would ever do that in class. Which one of the two is the most silent? Any suggestions?....

Good question

Only Adam has/had both the systems in house at the same point of time (AFAIK) so I guess he should answer this question...

Alienware is louder

I would think its not noticeable or probably sagers, just cause alienwares seem to run hotter.

It seems to me that more people post "loudness" issues with Sager...especially the 8790 and 8890.

yeah.

screw sound get headphones.

Which is what I think I will do. This thing is too sweet to send back over some fan action.

I highly doubt he's willing to buy headphones for everyone in his classes. Much less buy some sort of system that the teacher can broadcast on to those headphones

yeah....I won't buy headphones...and actually I am concerned about the loudness of the fans....not the speakers. I am concerned on using a laptop that will sound like a jet engine mid way through class when the processor gets hot.

No it shouldnt be that bad, just work in the back of the room/hall.

Alienware is definatly better

I had the 8890 about 6 months ago, but quickly returned it because i wasnt happy with the screen and overall performance... i bought the new alienware, and i did notice the speakers, they are absolutly phenominal compared to any other laptop ive ever had, and i ve had about 5 in the last year. Thats just my opinion, and im sure the sager laptops with the 17in screens have wicked nice speakers, but the sager 8890's werent anything special.

the dell xps notebook is supposed to have the best sound from a laptop as far as i've read in the various posts as well as professional reviews, however its looks are something else....................

thanks morbid and diesel for the input but I want to know what laptops are louder when it comes to fan noise....not speaker quality.

ohhhhhh oooops

from what i've read here, the sagers seem to be quite loud, the 8790 the loudest followed by the 8890 and the 4790. I haven't read any complaints about AW fan noise, though the AW guys seem to have their own problems with crappy or non working WIFI

Someone else posted in another thread about his wife having an AW and him an 8790. He said that the AW was a little bit noisier than the 8790.

brianl and Adam are the only other ones that I can think of off the top o' my head that have both and can do comparisons.
