8790 - 3D Mark 2001 SE - Low Score?

Hi gang,

I just ran 3DMark2001 SE and achieved a result that doesn't seem consistent with the other results I've been seeing. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or what's going on. Thanks for any input.

Here is my setup:

3.2
1.0gb RAM
60gb 7200 rpm HDD

M11 settings : Core 479.2 MHz, Memory 290.25 MHz.

Test run at default settings (1024x768, 32 bit color, compressed textures, D3D Pure Hardware T&L, Antialiasing: None.

3DMark Score = 7517, 7533, 7468

What do you guys think?

That's definitely strange. My 3.4 8790 scored 11907 and that's with lots of background programs running. You might want to reinstall your videocard drivers. The same thing happened when I reinstalled windows and installed the videocard driver, my score was very inconsistent with the system I have. So I uninstalled and then reinstalled the drivers and it worked like a charm.

You running it on battery or AC? Try another benchmark like UT2K3, or Aquamark 3 to see if it is also low.

Might try the version (2003) that has DX-9 included. This might make a difference.

How do you run this and then where do you look to get the score? If I knew, I'd run it and let you know what my results are.

Thanks for the help!

I'm downloading Aquamark and the newer 3DMark now. Will edit this post after it runs.

*Running on AC
*MobileMeter shows proc running between 3.2 to 3.23 (so it's not the proc)

*drivers are the ones that came installed with the system... not sure what they are but I'm assuming they're the newest?

UPDATE:

Aquamark 3 Score = 23,353

3D Mark 2003 = really big and taking forever to d/l lol

I originally got about 11190 on 3dmark 2001se when i use the original driver provided by sager, but then I used omega driver and clocked the core at 500mhz and 300mzh on memory and i got 13380 on 3dmark 2001se.

I just installed the Omega drivers and without overclocking (since I can't seem to find it in the control panel... I thought Omega's had it built in since you're not supposed to use an external for fear or wiping his mods) my 3D mark 2001 SE score is 11,358.

The drivers that they install from the factory are a major handicap it seems. Back to more fun testing...

UPDATE - I have no idea how I ever achieved the score >10,000 that one time. I cannot replicate it.

Help

Guys could you please check this out and tell me if I should call PC Torque and arrange to return this laptop.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7702017

3DMark Score 7537 3D marks

How can this score be possible? Overclocked pretty high (513/303) at that... what the heck could be causing this >3000 point discrepancy?

Same poor performance when I did Aquamark at the same settings - 23,705

I'm starting to think faulty M11....

Need advice please... <sigh> this could be disastrous for my laptop plans since I'm moving to Canada in DAYS...

Well, the first thing that is obvious is that your computer thinks it has a mobility 9600 in it. It should have a 9700. There would seem to be a problem with the chipset drivers that you loaded. (or someone loaded) The video drivers are also for a 9600. I would look at reformatting and reinstalling, or call pctorque and see if you got the right chipset drivers. (did you install yourself, or preinstall?) Hope this helps! ps. The reason I suggest reformatting and reinstalling is that the drivers should be installed in a certain order. And that's impossible to do with all the other drivers already loaded.

Please ignore my posts about the performance.
Turns out my drivers were corrupted like a mofo. A fresh reinstall and running at slightly lower clock (just for kicks) I got this:

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7702538

12,785. My faith has been reaffirmed!

Sorry Adam/Tom in advance for any panicked emails you may have received
I'm also apologizing to you, the reader... takeaway lesson? DRIVERS DRIVERS DRIVERS CLEAN INSTALL CLEAN INSTALL CLEAN INSTALL

<sheepish grin>

quick question though... What should the AGP Aperture Size be set to in the BIOS? From the factory it's 128mb... is this correct?

Still wondering why it says you have an Mobility Radeon 9600? Isn't your's supposed to be a 9700?

For some reason the Omega drivers show it as a 9600 -- but trust me... at these clock speeds and with these benchmarks I wouldn't complain if Omega decided to show my card as a Matrox G200... yes I went there....
what does your device manager say it is?
Any drivers other then the one's provided by sager will make it show up as a mobile 9600. Mine does it as well and my brother's X1000 laptop makes his 9200 say 9000.

hello,
did anybody try to run Burn in Test on his\her machine? I tried Burn In test Pro version 4.0 by Passmark software(http://www.passmark.com/ftp/bitpro.exe). I only tested CPU,RAM and graphic modules separetely and combined. They passed the test individualy but when I combined them system locked up itself each time in the first 1 or 2 minutes. Any idea about this? Can you run this program and post the result? I appreciate any input on this matter. Thank you and enjoy your systems.
