touchpad left mouse button problem :S

damn it, i got a little carried away with my pocket knife when i was trying to pry up the left mouse button from different areas of the button and i got little marks all around the button now. took off the finish and made some knicks a little bit. man that was stupid

well my right touchpad button clicks fine

the left one was clicking on only half of the button

now it doesnt click, you have to put pressure on it and it detects a left click
but there is not a physical click

very annoying when browsing the web or something

now i just made it worse with my knife

im thinkin maybe there is something stuck in it

i dont wanna take the whole damn notebook apart to fix this but i cant stand it

toshiba satellite A35...

any ideas guys?

very weird if i pry it with a knife or also use some compressed air it will click fine for a couple clicks then it slowly works its way back into that not clicking state.... hmm

Oh my god now I just wanna kill myself...

you guys know how there is the touchpad part then there is usually a piece of plastic running horizontally that divides up the buttons and the touchpad?

well what i notices was when i pryed the left button, it was also prying the right button and the right button was sitting below that plastic divider...

this is really hard to explain but i think the left button got stuck in a way it shouldnt have been (it has something to do with that separator between the buttons and the touchpad) and it wouldnt spring back up

so now at least i got a working button again

but i got marks from wherei used the knife

im so pissed cuz if i would have known to use the knife right between the two buttons only i would have only had like one tiny mark if that.... now i have marks all around the left button because i was trying to find the right spot to pry up...

damn it. im speechless.... any input?

at least my button works now *knock on wood*

EDIT: nooooo.. okay heres what happens now.. if i push too hard on it it becomes unclickable and only works with pressure... damn. maybe its not a piece of food in there maybe its something wrong with the press and release mechanism in the touchpad? this thing is a few years old... what are my options :/

Your best bet is to disassemble your laptop and take a look at the naughty bits that comprise the trackpad and the circuit board the trackpad button switches are soldered to. Check for damage to the trackpad buttons and the underside of the top half of the laptop's case where the trackpad is fitted. Be on the lookout for any plastic burrs that could affect the normal operation of the trackpad buttons.

That, and try to refrain from the habit of taking a knife to your laptop in the future. :P
