P25-s690??

Went to Comp USA today to see if they had the S670 in stock and asked one of the salesman how much it would be to upgrade the Memory....

He tried to sell me on the S609 and said it was a better deal , but I let him know I had put off buying the S609 and had been eagerly awaiting the replacement for quite some time

He then asked if I didn't mind waiting another month or so for yet another upgrade

Apparently, it will be dubbed the "S690" and will come with 2GB memory and a faster processor

I dunno how much faith I can put into CompUSA's staff , but it seems likely to be true

I figure I'll wait a few more weeks....

If anything, I'll at least end up with an S670 at a lower price

Rick you are the car guy right?

All it takes is a phillips screwdriver to upgrade the memory you unscrew the panel on the bottom ... after that the old memory comes up no tools required and the new memory comes in.

Buying it with the memory installed from toshiba will probably be 300 or 400 more than buying the memory yourself.

pricewatch.com gives good info on finding what you need at reasonable cost

But it's your cash!

OK, so the memory is an easy install, but what about the processor

I figure if it comes with a 3.4 or 3.6GHz deal, then it would be worth the wait

Just what is it exactly that you are going to do with such a powerful and heavy laptop?

Don't get me wrong this a fine machine and for a developer or serious computer grahics person it is a fine desktop replacement.

But for the average joe, it seems frivolous to spend so much unless you have a specific purpose in mind. There are some very nice machines for half as much.

If your goal is to have the ultimate laptop, well that only lasts about 3 weeks until something faster/nicer comes out. So that pursuit is in vain.

You probably won't notice the difference in processor speed and you don't really need more than 512 mb unless you have specific requirements.

My advice is to buy a cheaper machine and spend the rest on car stuff.

It'll mainly be used for hardcore video editing and tremendous multi-tasking....

I'm not a gamer in any way (unless you count online golf and pool), so you may be right about the 512 being enough....

17" WideScreen, DVD Burner, TV Tuner and good support (in case I need it) is an absolute MUST!! (regardless of price)

I guess the only other machine I would consider is a ZD-7000, but I'm pretty much dead set on a Toshiba

As for being Heavy, well, it doesn't really matter much to me...

The bigger the better, I say

Most people nowadays make such a fuss over a few pounds like they're dragging it across a desert or sumthin

As long as it can do EVERYTHING without having to swap drives or connect to a docking station, I don't mind the weight at all.....
