Question on creating partitions...

Hi there,

On Tiger, how do you create 2 partitions on the HD?

The partition in utilities won't allow me to partition the hard drive while the OS is still running. Is there a way to boot with the Tiger DVD and create partitions for a clean install before loading the OS?

Thanks!

If your doing a clean install you can go up to the tools or util menu..cant remember...but on the top of the screen where the menus are. There select disk utils and your all set to go. Its way simple but we are so used to the "next" screen installs (where all you do is press next 10 times) we dont really look to see if the install is actually interactive. It might even allow you to partition your existing install if you boot from the install disks...

I initiate the install from DVD when running Tiger. So, after the reboot during the install process, there is an option on the top menu to partition the hard-drive during the countless "next" screens of the install process?

Also, how do you boot from the Tiger DVD, instead of having to start it from the OS?

Many thanks!

If you have an Intel Mac you can use BootCamp to make a second partition without deleting any data.

There's also a command line utility—which BootCamp just slaps a gui on to—that will do it but I can't remember what it is.
