Speaker/Line-Out Problems

So yesterday, I flew from Nj to Fl while watching Saw 3 on my MacBook. The whole time I was watching, I was using my headphones, plugged into the headphone jack. Last night, I noticed a red beam of light coming from inside my headphone jack that was never there before, I thought "wow that's cool, this thing shows me something new and cool everyday"...wrong. This morning I was trying to listen to music but nothing comes out of my speakers and the red light is still apparent. Below is a screenshot of what the volume thing does when i press volume up or down, it can only be muted or up all the way but neither of them actually put out sound. What do I do? Don't tell me to restart my computer, I'm not retarted. Thanks guys!

The audio jacks on MacBooks and MacBook Pros are combination digital and analogue.

Somehow the computer decided to start sending digital to the jack—hence the laser inside—instead of analogue.

Try repairing permissions. If that doesn't work try deleting the iTunes plist file.

Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility

Select your hard drive on the left hand pane and click Repair Permissions at the bottom of the right.

The specific file is com.apple.itunes.plist

It should be the Preferences folder of one of the library folders.

Even that didn't work, this will be my fourth or fifth trip to the Apple store. Since my father is an attorney and knows the laws (obviously) we are going to try and get Apple to replace my entire laptop. Thanks for your help.

Some people have suggested that one of the pins inside the jack might be bent and have had success unbending them with pins and whatnot:
