Hi all,
After giving vista a serious go for my work laptop I have no choice but to remove it and reinstall windows XP pro (xp home would be fine too).
The trouble I am having is that the dv9220us seems to only be sold with vista and there are no XP recovery disks and a serious lack of drivers available for this model and XP. I do have several retail/OEM copies of XP pro and Home with Original CD keys at my disposal. I even have a few copies/keys of 2000 pro left (from my microsoft professional certified days)
Last week I did a complete nuke and reinstall of XP from the retail CD's but the install just wasn't right with missing drivers and such. After much searching and generic MS drivers here and patched drivers there it just wasn't quite right. So on a chance I ordered the XP reinstall disks for the DV9000t which seems to have a similar setup and hardware as the dv9220.
The recovery installation went something like this. (I think these are actually DVDs)
Boot from CD#1
System scan etc
Copies files from CD1 for about 30 seconds and prompts for CD2
Copies files from CD2 for a few moments and the progress bar goes to somewhere around 50%
Prompt for CD1 again and once is starts to copy files from that CD the whole process grinds to a crawl. the time between 50% and 51% is roughly 20-30 minutes.
I have tried with the BIOS SATA on and off, both of which produced the same hang time.
At this point I am grasping for any suggestions to get a functional version of windows XP on the laptop. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing the lag on the install? I've read someone was having a similar problem on an older laptop that was being caused by not formatting the hard drive or such.
My wife also has a dv9220 and it is a great machine for her gaming and home use. I'm a tad jealous, but at least I can post a message here from it.
Is it possible to install the from the retail CD and maybe update the drivers from a set of recovery disks?
Thank you in advance.
