Windows Vista and Clevo M590KE

I purchased a Clevo M590KE from rjtech.com and parts from various online vendors (mostly ewiz.com) and put together a really nice laptop. Everything is running great . . . except the sound.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate and for the life of me I can't turn down (ideally) or turn off the subwoofer (speaker on the bottom of the laptop). No matter what I do the subwoofer is on full blast, and because it's not a low range only speaker (apparently there's no crossover or high-freq filter for this speaker), EVERYTHING is played full blast.

The volume controls work fine for the two speakers on top (above the keyboard), but I have no control of the subwoofer. Even setting the volume to mute does nothing.

My laptop uses a Realtek AC'97 sound chip. I think this is a driver issue (I downloaded Vista drivers from the sagernotebook.com website - but they are listed as "beta") but am not 100% sure.

Has anyone else had this problem with Windows Vista? Are there any workarounds?

Thanks in advance
David

Should I post this in a different forum? I looked in the Sager support section, but there isn't a section for the 59xx notebook (uses the Clevo M590KE chassis).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I also bought a M590KE. However mine was from M-Techlaptops.com. Bsically, it's the same thing. I got mine with XP Pro and a free upgrade to Vista Business x32. When I eventually got the Vista and tried to install it, I had one hell of a time with the drivers; specifically the sound and duel graphics. After much downloading / installing / uninstalling and downloading again, I swallowed my pride and contacted the customer support. The service was geat!!!

The rep at Clevo (to which I was transfered) said that he would send me disk with ALL the Vista drivers. He also explained that (for some reason) Clevo would NOT be posting their Vista drivers on the net (I can only guess that they have entered into some sort of agreement with Microsoft to help keep their software legal, and screw-over any pirateers by keeping the drivers under lock and proverbial key).

My advice, try contacting Clevo or R&J customer support. You may just be surprised.

Hope this helps.
