New!! Thinkpad T61!

Thread Starter
Heard the news over at thinkpads.com: Lenovo is supposed to be releasing the T61 sometime early May.

Just speculating...

Whats New:

14" Widescreen WSXGA+
New GPU?
No more 15" 4:3, Flexview
EDIT: Actually, it was said that all 4:3 aspect ratio screens (including the 14.1") are being discontinued. It may only be available in Widescreen... we'll see.
Intel Santa Rosa

I'm really looking forward to the 14" WSXGA+

EDIT: Initial specs and details here --> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=119206

Any comments?

I've heard the same may announcement, june availability rumors from distributors.
No hints on what it'll have though. I hope it'll have external PCI-E support, but doubt it :-P

There is no WSXGA+ in that size to my knowledge as DPIs go too high to comfortably read. Probably with Vista and scalable UI there is a change of having such screens, but right now the maximum resolution for that size is WXGA+ (1440x900) which is ok for the size.

I would rather hope for a P version on 14". That would be simply awesome.

Flexview is perfect.

Problem is, the manufacturer has stopped making them, odds are they're focusing on widescreens, as the IPS market was just too small.

Still waiting for my T61. They now say it's going to be delivered on the 18th, well over a month after I ordered it!
I canceled my order from Lenovo and bought it from PC Connection. Cost a little more with a little better specs, but no tax and next day shipping was relatively cheap.

i think someone on my site did a review of this notebook.

From what I've heard, there have been extensive shipping delays due to manufacturing problems of one of the parts. Any one part can delay your entire system.

It seems the battery life is not so good on T61. It's also thicker than T60 14.1" models.

It seems T61 is thicker than T60 14.1" models.

The T61 is a little bit thicker than the T60 (about 0.1" as far as I remember).

The battery life is estimated as follows:

w/ 140m and 6 cell - approx. 2:30 hours
w/ 140m and 7 cell - just under 3 hours
w/ x3100 and 6 cell - approx 3:30 hours
w/ x3100 and 7 cell - just under 4 hours

You lose about an hour going with dedicated graphics.

I have had both the T60 and a T60P, and briefly thought about getting a T61.

I don't really see the T61 as a step forward

It's definately a faster machine... it's too bad the dedicated graphics is so power hungry. One would have to purchase an extra ultrabay battery just to keep up with the old T series in terms of battery life.
