M6809 and ACPI questions

Hello,

I am new to the forums, scanned through but did not find answers to my issue so I thought I would seek help. I have recently upgraded my 6809 from Home SP1 to XP Pro SP2. I partitioned the drive, booted from the Partition, and installed onto a newly formated C drive.

Everything went smoothly. Once XP Pro was installed I installed the drivers from the Emachines Website, then ran windows update to patch the system up to current crunchy goodness.

HOWEVER

I have a few issues now. I have in the event viewer ACPI errors. If I unplug the AC power cord while the system is running it locks. If I close the lid it locks. If I attempt to adjust the brightness up or down, etc the system locks. I contacted support via chat twice and recieved two different answers. One was to reinstall the OS. The other was to install a set of VIA 4 in 1 drivers. I did both. No dice. Same issues.

I know it has to do with the ACPI. So under device manager I have various items that need the correct drivers I believe.

Here is what I have . . . Any other M6809 users want to let me know what they have?

Batteries:
Microsoft AC Adapter
Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
Computer:
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
System Devices:
ACPI Fixed Feature Button
ACPI Lid
ACPI Power Button
ACPI Sleep Button
Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller
Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System

Which of these need updated drivers to solve the problem and where can I get them?

Thanks in advance!

BIOS version? 0f02.p00 had some serious ACPI issues with SP2.

Thank you for your imput. I have installed the patches. Still no dice. It does appear I am going to have to flash my bios. Currently at 0f02.p00.

I really don't want to flash my bios. Had systems in the past start having all kinds of screwy errors after a bios flash. Guess I will do some searching for bios update and flashing software.

So. How safe is flashing the BIOS on a M6809? Cause I don't have the $$ laying around to replace it if it burns out the motherboard.

Thanks . . .

If you want to run anything post SP1, you will have to flash from 0f02.p00. The flashing of the BIOS is relatively safe on the m6809. Just be patient when the flash starts and do not interrupt the flash process. If you are having stability issues on your current Windows install and don't think it will stay up for long enough to complete the flash, go back to a pre-SP2 environment.

Windows is stable I can do anything I want and avoid a lockup. The only time a lock up occurs is when I attempt to use any of the FN keys like Brighten Monitor, Darken Monitor, etc. And when I close the lid it locks. So I see various Bios versions on the boards. Everything from The M6811 Bios of 0f08.poo. To a Targa Bios of 0f09.poo. Emachines only has a current Bios of 0f05.poo listed for the M6809.

Why can't this be easy!??!

Since the internal DVD/CD has been used to death and no longer functions I am figuring I can only flash my bios to 0f05.poo/0f008.poo. The targa bios is out of the question because you have to boot from a disk to use it. Correct? Sorry to be a pain, but you guys have gone through this before so I am in your debt, and following in your footsteps.

Thanks for all words of wisdom.

Okay, I played it safe and went with what emachines supported for my M6809. 0f05.poo.

Used Winphlash to load in new Bios. Rebooted.

Problems solved.
Lid Close - No lock
All FN keys - No lock
Unplug power/Replug power - no lock.
Heck it even shuts itself down now!

THANKS GUYS YOU ALL ROCK!
