i got a replacement card, a freakin' 7800 a00 revision refurbished video card, that totaly sucked, mine was newer but look at the attachment an see for yourself. And the blue lines are visible all over the screen, even on external screen, heck i was even able to take a screen of it, now they say it has happend before and i'll get a mobo replacement, if i had vista i would be like screwed cause the damn thing can't be transfered from other pc and a mobo change is considered a pc replacement.

Call them back and tell them that you don't want a new mobo, as this isn't a motherboard issue. Instead just need new vid card and that you should get a 7900 GS because you know that there are massive heat problems associated with the 7800 go card, to which your problems can likely be traced anyway.
That is not a motherboard issue. The 7800 is dead/dieing. That is the same exact thing that happened to my GTX right before it burned up. My lines were red though. Stress that card for a little while...the game will probably crash and you wont be booting your PC up again with out a replacement card.

im sure microsoft would also reset the activation for you if you call and explain. they are easy to work with.

Yep i know, but i'll get a new mobo anyway on monday for free so i'll wait for the change and i'll have more to preassure them on. But yeah the old card was fried and the one they put on is fried to, so i'll tell them that i don't want a 7800 or that they should give me a new lappie anyway

About the lines thay started that way it's worse now i can't scroll a page on a dark background cause i cannot see anything, on white backgrounds it tends to work better. so i'll call and tell them i want a 7900 at least, who know maybe i'll get them to send a 7950 gtx LMAO

They will never send a replacement part thats not on the parts compatibility list. Just tell them you want a 7900 GS.

somebody made a post earlier this week about getting a 7950 with their 9400 I tihnk but this case is most likely very rare

I find that very hard to believe...not saying the post didnt happen, but that the poster could have been BSing.

Looks a lot like my old dying GeForce 4 series card.

Good luck on getting a 7900GS. Most report it overclocks very well and runs cooler.

from http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...50#post2602263 Like you said he could be full of it and I really doubt the average person would be able to pull that off...I cant even get dell to give me a gpu that doesnt reboot in 3d mode with stock settings...should've opted for CC

if you are dealing with a 7800 and heat problems... use the UNRESOLVED ISSUES form at DELL....

I had a 7800 w/heat issues... after a card replacement did NOT fix it... I used UNRESOLVED ISSUES... and got a new laptop with a 7900GS... free.

The techs at UNRESOLVED ISSUES have more options than general Tech Support.

give it a whirl.
Correct you have to keep pressing the issue with the unresolved guys, clearly a defective card.
Well that whole thing with the 7950 was because he had a 7800gtx in his 9300 that was replaced
post #15 of 20
There is no way in hell i believe he had a 9300 which he installed a 7800 GTX in, which isnt covered under warranty, and had it replaced with a 9400, with a card not designed or listed as a fitting part for that chassis. He either had some huge connection hes not telling us about or hes full of it.
well technically the card is covered under warranty; the issue is probably that the person he talked to on the phone didn't realize the process he had to go through to get the 7800gtx to work in his computer; i'm sure if he had then that would not have happened.
The only way the card would have been covered under warranty is if he bought it from Dell spare parts and it was with in 90 days. In that case, he would have had the card replaced, not his system.

Looks similar to what happened when my graphics module went bad (for the 4th time) - http://ajw.110mb.com/gallery/
post #19 of 20
Alot of people were talkin about warranty of their spare parts cards getting tacked onto the warranty they already had...Again, no clue personally, but I've heard it from multiple people and may be an oversight at dell idk...

If the card is on the parts compatibility list, then it is covered under the systems warranty. IE, buy a 9400 with an x1400, buy a single pipe 7900 GS from Dell spare parts, the 7900 GS is covered under whatever warranty the system has.
