Intro:
Hi, i have done a quick review of the notebook i purchased so that any body considering buying an NEC notebook could get some feedback on its perfomance. I didn't find any other reviews on this site so i guess there not well known.

1GB-PC2-4300 RAM.
80GB hard disk.
LG GSA-4082N dual-layer DVD-RAM writer.

802.11a/b/g WLAN.

I think that's all for the specks, it didn't come with any extras apart from the remote control not a standard item and available on some models only. I have seen the remote advertised as costing $100.00, not a good price.

I Have allready done the system rating so here are 3DMark/PCMark and a few timedemo scores.

GPU 425 MEM 378

3DMark
3DMARK 2001=13401
3DMARK 2003=5176
3DMARK 2005=2937
3DMARK 2006=1426

PCMark
PCMARK 2004=4895
PCMARK 2005=3322

Half Life
Half life Stress Test 1280x800=48.05fps
1024x768=56.94fps

The Half Life Tests where done with all the settings on high with full HDR lighting.

Doom 3
Timedemo Low=73.5fps
Medium=73.7fps
High=51.3fps
Ultra=36.4fps

The doom 3 settings where done with the standard settings for each quality tested, low, medium,high,ultra.

The graphic card settings are under clocked by default with the GPU set at 425 and the Mem at 378. Having read a few reviews on notebooks with a x1600 that seems to be a common practice so i tried overcloking.

I installed the latest ATI Drivers with the ATI overclocking tool without any problems, i think the normal setting should be GPU 470 and Mem 470 but being a bit cautious i kept the settings to GPU 479 and the Memory at 459 so still a bit under clocked.

GPU 479 MEM 459

3DMark
3DMARK 2001=15088
3DMARK 2003=6071
3DMARK 2005=3418
3DMARK 2006=1667

PCMark
PCMARK 2004=5005
PCMARK 2005=3460

Half Life
Half life Stress Test 1280x800=60.94fps
1024x768=71.76fps

Doom 3
Timedemo Low=82fps
Medium=81.3fps
High=63.3fps
Ultra=48.4fps

I'm happy with the results, all the games i have tried run fine. Games tested include,Half Life, Doom 3, Farcry, Quake 4, and BF2.

Now i don't think any Notebook is perfect and this one does have a few minor niggles, so this is my list of pro,s and con,s

PRO:
1.Nice styling, love the glowing NEC logo on the lid and the overall colours.
2.Performance.
3.Features.
4.Price, $1499 Australian Dollars.
5.Speakers, the subwoofer does its bit.
6.Quiet and cool, most of the time.
7.the best touchpad i have used.

CONS:
1.Screen good but could have been better, Viewing angle not so good.
2.Stays nice and quiet under the pump but gets a bit warmer than i like.
3.Battery only good for 90 minutes under load, it did go better when the ECO button was used and got over 2 hours then.
4.Card reader only a 4 in 1 that wont take XD card.

That,s it, not much to complain about really. Hope this has been useful to the forum readers. Thanks, Frowning Monkey.
