ok so I put vista on the macbook pro, it works GREAT. my bluetooth mighty mouse was able to be connected. you can use 2 fingure scrolling with the new bootcamp update and the built in isight works with MSN messenger oh yeah the remote works with media player and general volume control. plus..... I mean, come on..... it looks better than any windows laptop out there.
take it in...

although OSX is still much better. It's good to know that we have the best of BOTH worlds

Em... that just looks like a travesty. That poor Mac, having to run Vista. Someone asked me to fix their computer the other day. It had a new install of Vista on it. Same old, same old... still a headache to deal with. So I'd say you have the best on there, and also both worlds.

It's ironic that Vista's sweet new look is perfectly at home on any of the Mac models out but it looks completely out of place on most normal PCs.

Most of their ideas seem to originate from apple. Why is it ironic? haha.
Media Center = crappy version of Front Row that is too resource intensive, thus inducing the lag factor :]

You monster, your poisoning that poor MBP! lol, anywho, Vista looks great, but doesn't work the best IMO. But yeah I agree Kakaze, looks way more "fit" for macs then pcs.

you forgot one downside of your little experiment.

you get sick of vista after mere days, and wish it wasnt there anymore

i tried the business version for about all of one day, suffice to say, its gone.

actually to tell you a story, I put vista on my desktop pc and I HATED IT, seeing that I already purchased it from school they didn't want to take it back so I had to use it not to waste the cash. I then decided to put it on my mac that already had xp on one partition, so it's pretty much just there so I don't waste the 109 I paid for it but I was CRUSHINGLY dissapointed with it. I couldn't play battlefield 2 at a smooth framerate and I saw nothing else then a new xp theme so I took it off.

I have a feeling that the same thing that affects gaming on OS X is now going to happen with Windows.

OpenGL is so integrated into OS X that, unlike Windows XP, individual software isn't able to get 100 percent access to the video card. It has to go through the OS to do it and it hampers performance.

Now that Window's GUI is all 3D accelerated in the same way that OS X is—hell it's even more involved than OS X's GUI considering the hardware required for Aero—software is going to suffer the same problem as OS X. Everything needs to compete with the OS now to get access to the video card.

Of course, that's only a problem when you insist on having 2000 FPS even though your monitor is only able to show you 60 of those 2k frames at any one time.

ive also noticed two things with vista, or even xp installed.

the hard drive makes this odd odd noise, like over seeking or something, no clue.

and of course the processor whines a great deal with those two OS'es

im more concerned with the hard drive noise though, anyone else have that?

I had vista on my XPS for a few hours (just checking to see if Final Release was any better than RC1) .. then I got over the eye candy and realized there is no compelling reason for me to run vista instead of XP.... good thing I didn't waste $399

Now if only we could find all the 64-bit drivers for those of us who have Vista Ultimate. Personally I am very happy with XP on my MBP right now. I haven't used XP via Bootcamp in months, but every now and then I need to view an online presentation so I have to go through parallels. Works great though.

Doesn't look half-bad...mainly due to the fact that the MBP is so damn sexy. But, I'm not even sure I want to install Vista on my Windows Desktop, let alone on any Mac

Same here. I think if I install Vista on my PC then it'll just screw up everything I want to do like play Meideval 2 Total War, I will get even less FPS because Vista will kill my GeFoce 5600 XT, and I don't have like any HD space. My iMac is way too slow run Vista lol

I was part of the beta program on Vista and received three licences of Ultimate and been using it on my main machine for quite some time now. While I do think MSFT is moving in the right direction with Vista, I have finally (less than a week ago) taken Vista off of my system and shelved it in favour of XP.

There were too many little problems and hurdles to cross with Vista that collectively, over time, gave me one too many headaches.

I'm now waiting for the May-June time frame for Intel's Santa Rosa platform and Leopard. I'll finally get my long awaited first macbook pro. Can't wait.

I'm probably just gonna use XP til I build a new rig (sometime in Summer). And this may be a little OT but does anyone have a link that can tell me about the new features that are going to be in Leopard or can someone tell me them, thx in advance!

oh crap...

I just read a press release from Apple confirming that Leopard will now be delayed till October. It blames the iPhone; having to reallocate resources from the OSX team to get the iPhone out on time (June release).

I was really looking forward to buying a new MBP with Leopard on it before the summer.

Well.... you can actually play all of the latest games on the 17" MBP, it does have a 256mb x1600 however you won't be able to put everything up to the max with AA, you may be able to max it out with out AA turned on.

so yeah you do have a gaming rig here BUT it's probably not for the hardcore gamer that will use it PRIMARILY for gaming, if your looking for something like that, a desktop or a consol would be better.
