SEXIEST Vista Machine - Page 2

Nice game : ) the X1600 is too low-end for my gaming though... No real need for a desktop. If they had an offering like the one in my sig I would go for it, but that is unlikely at this time...

Just for comparison 3DMark05 scores comparing an x1600 to my rig

X1600-5,000
M1710-11,000

Twice the performance :/

you activate AA/AF and the FPS drops into the sewer on that card, even on games like HL2/Doom

I love the "clean" look of the Apple I jsut wish they would drop in some more powerful components~

Oh yeah..Nice lookin laptop )))

Not everyone spend their free time playing games I honestly don't like the feel of dell computers too flimsy (i have sold m1710's in the past) I use osx because I don't have to worry about viruses and other M$ Bullstuff thats me though, and dells sell well because they give the masses what they want at competitive prices.

the magnesium case on my 1710 doesn't flex..

I love the simplicity of design with Apple machines...It's smooth, simple & very distinct.
My computer looks like sometihng out of star trek

I use to own an M1710

however I got bored of it pretty fast. Pc games are really lagging behind. So I gave back the m1710 because as much power as the computer has, the battery life wasn't good enough for me to take it to school. and it practically came with no software. So for games I would say that dell sells one of the greatest machines but what pc games are good these days, and what can you play on pc that you can't play AT ALL on the MBP?

I guess it's a question of getting a super sports car with a big engine that gives a bumpy ride and no road thats really compatible with the speed. or a luxury car with a decent engine that gives a much smoother ride and can park it self.

(k the last part was a joke)

lagging? what do you mean with that?

I just find that it's taking quite long to come out with really great games, I'm not trying to bash it as I am a gamer myself. however the consols come out with games much quicker and aren't as buggy as pc games, there are some really good games on pc but the console games that are out now even out class the pc in graphics and speed. not to mention a no lag connection on my 360.

(not a bash as I am on both sides of the fench. I just think that the consols have gone ahead. you buy the console and can play every game for 6 years at the best graphics setting (1920 x 1080) with no slow down , you buy a pc and you need to upgrade every year to have the best graphics, some cards don't work well with some games etc... )

I have a few 1710's in my home office ... ] -Console based games have specific hardware & software that they are designed around, not exactly a fair comparison to a PC that has thousands of different hardware & software configurations to work with...

-There are plenty of games out that require high end hardware if you want to see the eye candy. True you can play most games on an x1600 card, but don't expect to enjoy all the game has to offer or expect to play it above 15 FPS..

Please, name a few.

C@LV!N, I love macs, but I think your overexagerrating the power of the x1600. First, yes the x1600 may be able to play all of the games, but at 1920 x 1200, nope. Your gonna need a really good and fast video card to play at 1920 x 1200, get good fps, and have max settings on. Here are a couple
Company of Heroes
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Oblivion
FEAR
And ones that are coming out...
UT3
Crysis
Enemy Territories: Quake Wars
DiRT
Hell Gate London
Huxely
Two Worlds
+ many more

...As well as online games like city of Heroes/City of Villians (which recommend a PPU)

...As I stated before, yes you can play the games...Unfortunately you have to turn them all the way down & run at lower resolutions in order to play them with a decent framerate...

the X1600 scores 3500 on 3DMark05...
Stock 7950GTX scores 9400...Mine scores 11,000

I'm not trying to be a hardcore macer here, but yes as I stated you would have to turn off many features and I know that is no way to play a game as a hard core gamer. You have a great point and I know that hardcore gamers NEED the best of detail etc... as did I. my point was simply that they can run failry well on lower levels (which would be unsatisfactory) so as I said for games a pc is excellent, and to answer the question before, people get macs if they don't care much for games and they wanna do other stuff.

Alright lets move on.

Agreed... As I said in my original post I WISH they would come out with one. I love the design simplicity...I juist wish they would offer something that could do some damage on the gaming end & I would get one
