Alienware Coupons and Promotions

I'm ready to buy a desktop, but am trying the best to save the most money possible... that's why I created this thread...

I'm really ready to by a desktop, either Dell XPS 710 or Alienware Area-51, what's stopping me right now is the lack of good deals.

If you all can help me out, I'm looking for the best place to keep track of all Alienware promotions and coupons... like the one they had in January for PC Gamer... I missed the PC Gamer promotion by a few days, basically because I only found out the promotion by chance... and it was too late.

I'm no expert, but I don't think anything is being offered now..

I hear they'll be doing a back-to-school deal, but that'll be in September.. though if you can wait that long, you might as well.. with DX10 and all that

I think you can find an EPP discount of 5% somewhere, it was listed a while ago.

Bottom line though, AW's pricing is good for what you get, with Dell, you get a Dell. Though top end AW's are expensive, you can configure a great system for a decent price the way it is.

AW doesn't do coupons like Dell does. If you're looking for bottom line without considering quality of product, go with Dell. If you want an exceptional computer for less than the competition charges for comparable hardware, get an AW.

Feb, yes the Dell XPS 710 MAY be cheaper but you have to consider CS, quality, and what you are getting, ect. Alienware uses high quality RAM and harddrives, their CS is great. May I ask what your budget is? And AW doesn't do coupons like Dell.

My budget is under $4000... the configuration I want from Alienware is about $4500-4700...

I regret that I missed the PC Gamer promotion, that was a huge savings of over $850... that's why it is harder now for me to buy Alienware knowing that I could of save that much money...
I'm sure with a budget like that, you could make some compromises and still end up with a screaming system..
I missed the PC Gamer promotion as well. I doubt we'll see another promo as good as that one (I don't know if it had any limitations), but there may be something later with 2-300 bucks off, or with free shipping.

It's always hard to wait, because there is no definite time when/if Alienware does promotions.

I agree that you should be able to put together a nice system for less than $4000. You can always add more HD storage and a few other options later.

OKay ... a little trip to the AW site, and here's what I come up with. Easily within your $4000 range even with tax and shipping. Plus, you can probably squeeze in some option upgrades (2GB RAM? or another Hard Drive?, a sound card? or more warranty). Go for a lower option on the CPU and you've got even more flexibility.

I'm actually looking at Q6600 instead of QX6700... should I spend that $150 for the QX6700? Also, 2GB of RAM is a must... and if I go low latency is $375 extra (the price actually went up from few weeks ago)... 500 GB hardrive is also a near must. Call me stupid but I do like the cool factor of the AlienFX, that's another $200... plus a few more options that I want to have but probably shouldn't have... that brought my price to near $4500 or so... But... it is widely speculated that Q6600 will have a big price drop in April 22, do you think Alienware will drop the price of their Q6600 option as well?
Well.. it's really simple.. you're adding on all these things that you don't need, and that's driving your cost up. RAM would probably be easier to self-upgrade, and a 500GB HDD still seems highly unnecessary.. but that's a personal thing, I suppose.

Do what you want, but as I said, you can get an amazing system for under $4000, just seems like you're not trying hard enough, or that you're expecting the prices will for some reason drop x.x

In my experience you just have to keep checking their site. Occasionally they will drop the base price and/or drop the price of certain upgrades, even if its only for a week or so. When I first ordered my M9700 to upgrade from the dual 256 to the dual 512 video cards was and extra $400, a day after I ordered it, the price difference dropped to $150, and they changed my order no problem. A week later the price was back up. Of course a week before I ordered my laptop, they dropped the base price about $200.

Ahhh...you want all the fancy stuff

I don't think the QX6700 is necessary, just thought you must have been picking it up to get the price as high as you said. On a budget, I wouldn't spend the extra for low latency RAM ... but I don't know what you want to do with the computer.

AlienFX ... nice, but the first thing I'd sacrifice if I was on a budget. That's just personal preference. Hard Drives are very easy to add after the fact, so you might want to look into that for your 500GB drive.

If you aren't going to be happy unless you get everything you want, best to keep waiting and save up or wait for specials. Good Luck!

This system will last you YEARS...don't cut corners over 200 bucks, get what you want within REASON. Cut HUGE upgrades like the Quad Core...add the FX ligthing, fun stuff.

hmmmnnn... maybe I'm beginning to understand how you wore out your welcome here before. FX lighting is a great add-on if it doesn't hurt the pocket book, but no a great deal for someone looking to get bang for their buck. Wouldn't hard drive storage or CPU power be a better way to spend some extra bucks? (and note, I'm not saying the QX6700 is a must have)

Though his advice is as questionable as always, at least he's not yet reverted to telling us the XPS is better than the ALX, at 1/3 the price.

If history repeats itself, it's only a matter of time.

Well, as with most people considering Alienware, I use the computer for gaming. How much low latency is better than regular RAM?
Low latency RAM will only give you a small performance increase (probably on the order of 1-2%, if that) for gaming. Low latency RAM is generally better for overclocking, but not an absolute necessity.
Why is low latency RAM better for overclocking? I'm curious..
