Nvidia 8 series card in 12" laptop

I'm currently looking at buying a 12" laptop. I've almost pulled the trigger on a few m1210 in the outlet, but I keep hesitating. I'd hate to get one now and have a new 12" XPS come out with dx10 card in it.

Is there any chance of this happening in the near future? I'm guessing they'll get one eventually, but heat/battery life issues will limit its portability. The portability and battery life are important as I'll be using this lappy on the go daily.

I mostly play MMOs, so I don't need a huge GPU. I will be using this laptop for a few years though. Will I continue to be able to play these games on a 7400 go or is the 8 series going to be that much better in a small laptop.

i dont see anything much better than a 7400 in a 12 inch laptop anytime soon, so i'd go ahead and get the m1210 if the games u play arent hugely demanding... i easily play games like madden 07 (highest settings), splinter cell 3 (highest settings), and even splinter cell 4 (on low resolution) with no lagging at all so the little m1210 packs a punch for its size thats for sure.

Cool, thanks for reply. I figured that, but I'm not nearly as up on this stuff as a lot folks around here.

Maybe you can help with one more thing. This is the system I'm looking at:

System Price:$1,379.00

Operating System
Genuine Windows XP Media Center 2005

Memory
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM 677MHz (2 DIMMs)

Hard Disk Drive
80 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)

Video
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache

XPS M1210 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 (2GHz/667MHz/4MB)Media Bay
8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability

Software Upgrade
Microsoft Works 8.5
Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software Edition
Trend Micro PC-cillin with AntiVirus and Spyware removal 36-months

NoteBook Screen
12.1 in Notebook Screen (Intg. web cam, Mobile Broadband Antenna, ear buds)

Hardware Upgrade
6 Cell Primary Battery
TV Tuner w/ Remote Control

Network Interface Card
1500 Wireless Card
Bluetooth Wireless Card

Its about $700 off of a comparable new one. Seems to be the best deal I've seen in a couple of months of looking.

What do you think?

yeah thats about 200 dollars less than i paid for almost the same setup, so i'd jump on it.

I would buy an upgraded battery if you plan to use it mobily. I believe stock 6 cell can only get you from 3-4 hrs. ask jayno about his 9 cell

that config does look like a solid machine. nice core 2. 2 gigs ram. has a gpu for crying out loud.
things its missing: 7200rpm hard drive, 9 cell battery

gives you 3 years of pccillin av if you want it too. haha. take it

Yeah the 9 cell is nice.. i would just upgrade to that later... and I actually had a 7200RPM hdd from a previous dell machine i put in my M1210, it originall came with a 120GB 5400RPM fujitsu hdd. So either way that deal ur getting is still nice. Go for it and then upgrade to the 9 cell battery if u feel u need the extra life.

I really wanted one with a 9 cell, but the outlet is real hit or miss. I shouldn't be too far from an outlet if I need one since I'll be at school most of the time.

One question, how long does it take to charge a 6 cell? 9 cell?

Thanks for the device guys.
