Old NP8887 (Clevo 888E) needs tuneup

Thread Starter
I am returning to school in the fall for an engineering program, and I need a "lab whore" I can use for programming FPGA's, cross platform development... I have a "badly used" NP8887. I need both serial, parallel & USB 2.0 to support the lab boards, logic analyzer and o'scope. These are not found on newer laprops unless you use the docking platform, and after all that the 12lb sager is not all that bad, (saves a circuit in the gym)!

The Display is perfect, keyboard/mouse pad great, it boots XP OK, but the display lid is cracked near the hinges, the lid hinge spring has sprung and there are loose fiddly-bits inside that rattle when you shake it.

Where is a good resource for Sager manuals, parts and pieces? Specifically I need:
Manual, Replacement lid, second hard drive, built in wireless card, hinges... Sounds like a lot, but I think for a few hundrd dollars I will have a much better laptop than I could buy used.

Any Ideas?

Thanks, David

Hi David,
I have the service and user manuals for the 8887 if you are interested.
They are rather large (13MB and 28MB respectively).

Let me know if you are interested.

Parts you will sometimes find on ebay.
By second hard drive I assume you mean the bracket to mount the drive - they are next to impossible to get.
Wireless card afaik is a std miniPCI one you should be able to pick up easily (unlike the miniUSB one inside the 8890 *sigh*).

Most of these replacements can be ordered through Sager, however, you will find it much cheaper if you look around the net from lots of retail/auction sites. A lot of users with older notebooks tend to 'part out' their notebooks for sale.

As for the lid and hinge, this is a known issue produced by improper hinge tension set by the manufacturer. You can get replacement lids etc from Sager but unless you adjust the hinge tension, the cracking will occur again. Unless you know how to do this I would recommend sending it out for upgrades etc. Otherwise these parts are available through Sager.
