Gaming Laptop Help!

I have been lurking in this forum sometime and I am rather frustrated about what would be my best choice for the price. Help would be most appreciated.

Here are my specifications:

- Intel Proc
- 512mb Vid Card [not shared]
- 2G Ram
- 80 Gig HDD - 7200
- Screen size doesnt matter [No gaming at work, hooked up to LCD/TV at home at 1280x768 resolution]
- Don't need a dvd-burner, I have external
- Xp Pro [Hard as hell to get nowadays, oem's need proof of purchased hardware]
- I have external creative x-fi card

My budget is under $2400. I have basically tried customizing laptops at all the major retailers, but I don't want to touch vista and they are all overpriced. I have my eye set on the Hypersonic Aviator MT7, but the forums have had nothing positive to say about hypersonic's customer service lately.

I have also read that the Nvidia Geforce Go 7600 is junk. I play counter-strike source, and world of warcraft. I carry my laptop between work and home, so portibility and less than 9lbs is a necessity. I am open to any suggestions at all, or just recommended companies with good customer service and warranty.

My current laptop is a HP NW8240. It was a monster of a machine about a year and half ago, but now it is slacking in the graphics and performance department.

Thanks for the help folks, looking foward to read your responses.

Well if you want 512Mb video card you pretty much stuck with a 17 inch machine. I can't think offhand any 15 inch machines with 512 video. For 2400 you could get XPS 1710 from the Dell outlet with a 7950GTX. You can still get them from the outlet with XP Pro.

You can still order the Dell Precision M90 with Windows XP. That laptop would fit your required specs and your budget. The video cards in the M90 are the same as in the M1710, just with a different OpenGL certified BIOS.

I have looked into both of your suggestions, and both those are great. I had another person recommend me to the: Asus G1

Here are the specs and the price: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16834220124

I don't like the fact that it has vista installed, but an oem of xp pro will still keep the cost within my budget. Whats the opinion on that laptop?

I never had an opportunity to see an Asus laptop in person. I hear they have excellent build quality though. The specs look good but I haven't heard much abou the Nvidia 7700.

The Asus G1 is a great laptop I've heard, the Dell M90 is also great. It all comes down to more graphics power or size.

I am having a battle between the two, but I will post pictures when I finally purchase, which will be in a couple days.

Hello, I customized an E1705 from Dell, it has a GS 7900 Go, and a Duo 2.0@667, with 2 G of DDR2 667. I did huge ammounts of research, and it came down to Dell. I chose Dell because of parts included and software bundled with the system, and if you time your purchase right you can't beat it for the money. XPs1710 would be a place to start. Dell service has been great, I just had them replace my 7900 and it cost nothing! and it was done in 1 day. As far as memory, you can customize any laptop and buy your own memory which will save money in the end, thats what I did, it saved me 200.00. Try customizing at the begining of the month, middle of the month and end of the month, keep an eye on the different prices, I made my purchase at the end of the month and saved 400.00.

I have also noticed the difference in price when those specific times come up. I guess I am going to wait a bit longer on my purchase and keep up the search for the best price.

if you purchase only 512MB of RAM & buy 2 GB through newegg you can save a few as well
