Has anyone had them call them back yet? I called, they took my name, # and tag, and said they would call me back... nothing so far.

Same with me. Took my name, number, and service tag. No call back yet. I am guessing it will take a little time.

I have had to get this LCD replaced three times and now I am getting a replacement. I wonder they will build the replacement one with a good LCD having no such problem...

Today is Day No. 3 that DHL has failed to pick up my PC for return to DELL for the LCD replacement. On Day 1, the guy showed up with no box, no label and offered to take my laptop with him back to the shop for boxing. I refused and he promised to return on Day 2.

On Day 2 he did not show up despite 2 phone calls from DHL saying the PC will be picked up that day.

Day 3, DHL guy shows up again with no box or shipping label. He promised he will come back tomorrow with the box and appropriate shipping docs.

Stay tuned.

Funny that you say that.

I scheduled an appointment with DHL to come by my house between 3-7 PM. After waiting in my house for 4 hrs, no one came. I called Dell who attempted to contact DHL ,but failed because their office was closed.

Then I decided to contact DHL myself and discovered that they apparently came to my house at 3:30 yet no one came. Hopefully I'll have luck tomorrow and have someone pickup my system ASAP.

Is DHL this inefficient in picking up packages or what?

I have had the worse luck with DHL. I prefer any other shipper to them.

Although Dell will try to tell you that you must send your laptop to them for replacement, if you persist, you can get them to send a replacement screen directly to you so that you can replace it yourself. The only drawback to installing a new screen yourself is that there is no warranty at all.

Thanks for the heads up. If the screen has dead pixels or massive light leakage, they won't take it back though?

I don't think that's what they meant.

I'm pretty sure the Dell rep I talked to meant "if you break it, you own it" or words to that effect - and you have no one to complain to if it's not installed right. They also only give fifteen working days for you to install it and send back the old one, or they bill you $530 dollars or so for the LCD screen. However, my laptop is my only computer - I simply don't have a week or two to wait while they replace my screen for me. I got the replacement screen two days after I called - Way to go, Dell!

I lived in Houston but have been based back here in Manila (Philippines) since January 1. Fortunately, I have had my LCD replaced. Dell Malaysia coordinated with a Dell affiliate here in Manila; a technician came to my home and replaced the LCD. I was quite impressed. Although I still am wary: the part that was used is EXACTLY the same part (an LG screen). I hope that those in the States that have had their screen replaced can post here as to whether or not the new screen is also an LG. Thanks.
