adaptors for US Imports

I'm sure this is a really stupid question but I'm about to buy an alienware m5550 but it's way cheaper for me to do this off their US website and import to Europe - can I easily switch the adaptor to a European one on a notebook?

I'm paranoid as I've seen issues with destops, and whilst I believe the adaptors have a 'switching' facility i still wonder if it has an impact?

thanks for any thoughts!!

Most of them only require a power cord that matches the local supply. The power brick itself is usually 90-250 volts and 50/60 Hz input.

I've run both Alienware and Dell notebooks in the US (110) and Australia (220). All you need is the adapter for the wall plug ... better yet, you can replace the cord on the adapter (the half that plugs into the wall) with one that fits the country you'll be using it in.

In case the OP wants a double shot of confirmation for what shazza said.. I used mine in Europe also (Germany and Bosnia) and all it required was an adaptor plug. The power brick auto switches to the correct voltage. I also ran it in Bosnia for over four months without an issue So if it can survive that third world countries electricity I'd say it definitely won't be an issue for you.

Another thing to look out for is that if the computer itself or the adapter has a voltage switch you will need to select the correct voltage BEFORE connecting the adapter or power supply to the power outlet or you'll damage the system even if you don't turn it on.
