anyone have a 10,000 rpm hd?
I don't.... 7200rpm both in laptop and desktop. God I wish I had a 10000rpm drive.... and one in my laptop would be extra sweet! Oh well, couple of years before thats standard I think.

This might be a stupid question but will it be possible to use desktop harddrives in an 9100?
Only if you used them in an external enclosure.

Or if it was a 2.5" x whatever thickness your machine takes. Which means it was notebook drive in the first place.

You can always get a machine with a built in RAID, then populate each drive bay with a 7200 speed drive. That would be damn fast. Sager, and Hypersonic support internal RAIDs.

the 8790 is an example of this theoretically you would obtain a 7200rpm x2 rotations since the work is divided

Yeah I had 2 of the raptor drives in Raid one Failed on me... Its odd I only expect failures on Maxtor and Hitachi drives never on a western Digital
post #14 of 16
I suppose that any drive can fail, its just its not as expected for a WD or Seagate to bite the dust so early....

www.storagereview.com has a great reliability index for the HDDs. It's worth the free sign up (and participation) if you're really interested.

Just because the HDD manufacturers are coming out with 2.5" enterprise drives, it does not make them mobile drives. These drives are for use with servers who are after lower power requirements, and faster data acquisition (more spindles of smaller disks means quicker access).

Sorry to burst any Notebooker's bubbles.
